Effects of shape of transverse cross-section on the load carrying capacity of laminated glass columns
2014
Abstract In this paper simplified expressions for the calculus of the load carrying capacity of glass columns having rectangular, tee (T) and cruciform (X) transverse cross-sections are proposed and verified against available experimental data. Members with T and X cross-sections are obtained by gluing single multilayered glass panels. The expressions derived take into account of the: shape of the transverse cross-section (rectangular, T, and, X sections); buckling phenomenon (flexural and torsional); failure in the glued sections; long time effects. Case of full connections and absence of connections are considered to determine the range of variation of expressions adopted. The comparison …
Load Demand Analysis of Nordic Rural Area with Holiday Resorts for Network Capacity Planning
2019
Most of the Nordic holiday resorts are in rural area with low capacity distributed network. The rural area network is weak and needs capacity expansion planning as the load demand of this area are going to increase due to penetration of electric vehicles and heat pumps. Such type of rural network can also be operated as a micro-grid, and therefore load analysis is required for appropriate operation. The load analysis will also be useful for finding proper sizing of distributed energy resources including energy storage. In this work, load demand analysis of a typical Nordic holiday resorts, connected in rural grid, is presented to find out the load variation during the usage periods. The loa…
Enantioselective Synthesis of 5-Trifluoromethyl-2-oxazolines under Dual Silver/Organocatalysis.
2019
[EN] The first enantioselective formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition between ¿-isocyanoesters and trifluoromethylketones to give 5-trifluoromethyl-2-oxazolines bearing two contiguous stereogenic centers, one of them being a quaternary stereocenter substituted with a CF3 group, has been developed. The reaction is based upon a multicatalytic approach that combines a bifunctional Brønsted base-squaramide organocatalyst and Ag+ as Lewis acid. The reaction could be achieved with a range of aryl and heteroaryl trifluoromethyl ketones, and the resulting oxazolines were obtained with good to excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivity.
Self-Radiolysis of Tritiated Water Stored in Zeolites 4A: Production and Behavior of H 2 and O 2
2015
International audience; Radiolysis of confined water and self-radiolysis of tritiated water give rise to several unanswered questions. To take into account this double specificity, we studied systems of zeolites 4A containing tritiated water at different water loading ratios. Two tritiated waters were synthesized at the volumetric activities of 27 and 60 TBq L −1. For each one, five samples were prepared, differentiated by their water loading ratios, expressed in percentage, close to 4%, 7%, 11%, 14%, and 19%. The study of the radiolysis in those systems revealed a double role of zeolites 4A: first, they increase the decomposition of water. Then they enhance the recombination of the major s…
The Constraints of Vehicle Range and Congestion for the Use of Electric Vehicles for Urban Freight in France
2015
The 9th International Conference on City Logistics, Tenerife, Espagne, 17-/06/2015 - 19/06/2015; Electric vehicle is a solution to reduce pollutant emissions from road urban freight. This paper assesses the potential CO2 reduction by transferring urban freight from diesel to electric vehicles while simultaneously looking at the two main technical constraints: electric vehicle range and the impact on congestion linked to change diesel heavy duty vehicles (with a load up to 25 tons) to much smaller electric vehicles. The data used has been computed from a survey (ECHO) that describes in details a very large sample of French shipments. Two scenarios were set up, which differ mainly by the type…
Simultaneous Vehicle and Crew Routing and Scheduling for Partial- and Full-Load Long-Distance Road Transport
2013
AbstractThis paper studies a simultaneous vehicle and crew routing and scheduling problem arising in long-distance road transport in Europe: Pickup-and-delivery requests have to be fulfilled over a multi-period planning horizon by a heterogeneous fleet of trucks and drivers. Typically, in the vehicle routing literature, a fixed assignment of a driver to a truck is assumed. In our approach, we abandon this assumption and allow truck/driver changes at geographically dispersed relay stations. This offers greater planning flexibility and allows a better utilization of trucks, but also creates intricate interdependencies between trucks and drivers and requires the synchronization of their routes…
A Cost-Effective Approach to Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation
2012
This paper presents an approach for developing cost effective hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation platforms for the use in controller software test and development. The approach is aimed at the many smaller manufacturers of e.g. mobile hydraulic machinery, which often do not have very advanced testing facilities at their disposal. A case study is presented where a HIL simulation platform is developed for the controller of a truck mounted loader crane. The total expenses in hardware and software is less than 10.000$.
Mathematical models for Multi Container Loading Problems with practical constraints
2019
Abstract We address the multi container loading problem of a company that serves its customers’ orders by building pallets with the required products and loading them into trucks. The problem is solved by using integer linear models. To be useful in practice, our models consider three types of constraints: geometric constraints, so that pallets lie completely inside the trucks and do not overlap; weight constraints, defining the maximum weights supported by a truck and by each axle, as well as the position of the centre of gravity of the cargo; and dynamic stability constraints. These last constraints forbid empty spaces between pallets to avoid cargo displacement when the truck is moving, …
UV-induced solvent free synthesis of truxillic acid–bile acid conjugates
2009
The solvent free UV-induced [2 + 2] intermolecular cycloaddition of two molecules of 3α-cinnamic acid ester of methyl lithocholate produced in 99% yield of α- and e-truxillic acid-bis(methyl lithocholate) isomers, which possess two structurally different potential binding sites. A prerequisite for this effective solid state reaction is a proper self-assembled crystal structure of the starting conjugate crystallized from acetonitrile. The crystallization of cinnamic acid ester of methyl lithocholate from acetonitrile produces two different crystalline forms (polymorphs), which is the reason for the solid state formation of two isomers of truxillic acid-bis(methyl lithocholate).
