α- and β-AgVO3 polymorphs as photoluminescent materials: an example of temperature-driven synthesis

2018

Abstract Controlling the synthesis of a given polymorph of an inorganic material is a further step in the design of property and function. In this letter, we report for the first time a simple procedure to effectively control the reversible transformation between the crystalline polymorphs α-AgVO3 and β-AgVO3. Photoluminescence emission (PL) performance is analyzed; at low temperatures (up to 35 °C) when α-AgVO3 is formed the PL emission is red, while at temperatures larger than 45 °C when β-AgVO3 is obtained the color of emission PL emission goes from green to blue. The findings highlight the ability of temperature to dramatically alter the nature of phase transformation at the atomic leve…

The TESS Grand Unified Hot Jupiter Survey I. 10 planets

2022

Hot Jupiters-short-period giant planets-were the first extrasolar planets to be discovered, but many questions about their origin remain. NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), an all-sky search for transiting planets, presents an opportunity to address these questions by constructing a uniform sample of hot Jupiters for demographic study through new detections and unifying the work of previous ground-based transit surveys. As the first results of an effort to build this large sample of planets, we report here the discovery of 10 new hot Jupiters (TOI-2193Ab, TOI-2207b, TOI-2236b, TOI-2421b, TOI-2567b, TOI-2570b, TOI-3331b, TOI-3540Ab, TOI-3693b, TOI-4137b). In vivo investigations on microcirculatory disturbances induced by crenated erythrocytes following norepinephrine application

1974

Using a special apparatus for high resolution cinephotomicrography, which allows simultaneous observation and recording of microcirculatory changes, alterations in blood flow patterns and in red cell shape during norepinephrine acting have been studied. Under physiological conditions, and during slowing of capillary blood flow due to gradual removing of 20–25% of the circulating blood volume, the normal red cells are extremely deformable while passing through mesenteric capillaries. After application of norepinephrine a general arteriolar constrictive response in the bowel wall occurs, causing a further slowing of the capillary blood flow in the mesentery. Under these circumstances the eryt…

Electron drift and longitudinal diffusion in high pressure xenon-helium gas mixtures

2019

We report new measurements of the drift velocity and longitudinal diffusion coefficients of electrons in pure xenon gas and in xenon-helium gas mixtures at 1-9 bar and electric field strengths of 50-300 V/cm. In pure xenon we find excellent agreement with world data at all $E/P$, for both drift velocity and diffusion coefficients. However, a larger value of the longitudinal diffusion coefficient than theoretical predictions is found at low $E/P$ in pure xenon, below the range of reduced fields usually probed by TPC experiments. A similar effect is observed in xenon-helium gas mixtures at somewhat larger $E/P$. Drift velocities in xenon-helium mixtures are found to be theoretically well pred…

Selected Aspects in the Structure of Beta-Delayed Particle Spectra

1986

Some weak beta-delayed particle emitters in the Tz = -3/2, -1, -1/2, +1/2 and +5/2 series are reviewed. Selected features of the delayed particle emission are discussed in terms of experimental delayed particle data and (p, γ), (p, p') and (p, n) reaction data. Experimental beta transition strengths are compared with the existing complete shell-model calculations for the sd-shell nuclei. The effect of the Gamow-Teller giant resonance on the structure of the delayed particle spectra is considered. The correlation between the widths of two decay channels, protons and alpha particles, and the preceeding beta decay is studied in the case of the 40Sc decay.

A new reference database for beta-delayed neutrons

2019

International audience; A new database containing all available experimental and evaluated β-delayed neutron data is presented in this paper. The database is the product of an international effort coordinated by the International Atomic Energy Agency. It comprises a microscopic section including all available experimental data on beta-decay half-lives, β-delayed neutron emission probabilities and spectra, as well as new systematics and global theoretical calculations for comparison. The beta-delayed neutron data for individual precursors have been benchmarked against available data on macroscopic properties such as total delayed-neutron yields and spectra, delayed-neutron decay curves and t…

Control of Space-Time Trajectories of Noise-Driven Optical Extreme Events in Metamaterial Waveguides

2019

Metamaterials offer the potential to precisely manipulate electromagnetic wave propagation in ways that cannot be achieved with materials found in nature. The formation and propagation of optical spatial solitons in metamaterials has been already investigated [1]. Here we report the theoretical and numerical investigations on temporal-spectral dynamics of nonlinear extreme events arising from the initial noise-perturbed plane wave in metamaterial waveguides. A typical waveguide structure used here is a planar structure with a metamaterial core and a part of the structure, in the form of the substrate, is replaced with a magnetooptic material. We assume that the core material is isotropic an…

The evolved pulsating CEMP star HD112869

2015

Radial velocity measurements, $BVR_C$ photometry, and high-resolution spectroscopy in the wavelength region from blue to near infrared are employed in order to clarify the evolutionary status of the carbon-enhanced metal-poor star HD112869 with unique ratio of carbon isotopes in the atmosphere. An LTE abundance analysis was carried out using the method of spectral synthesis and new self consistent 1D atmospheric models. The radial velocity monitoring confirmed semiregular variations with a peak-to-peak amplitude of about 10 km $s^{-1}$ and a dominating period of about 115 days. The light, color and radial velocity variations are typical of the evolved pulsating stars. The atmosphere of HD11…

An algorithm for computing geometric relative velocities through Fermi and observational coordinates

2013

We present a numerical method for computing the \textit{Fermi} and \textit{observational coordinates} of a distant test particle with respect to an observer. We apply this method for computing some previously introduced concepts of relative velocity: \textit{kinematic}, \textit{Fermi}, \textit{spectroscopic} and \textit{astrometric} relative velocities. We also extend these concepts to non-convex normal neighborhoods and we make some convergence tests, studying some fundamental examples in Schwarzschild and Kerr spacetimes. Finally, we show an alternative method for computing the Fermi and astrometric relative velocities.

Eulerian models of the rotating flexible wheelset for high frequency railway dynamics

2019

Abstract In this paper three formulations based on an Eulerian approach are presented to obtain the dynamic response of an elastic solid of revolution, which rotates around its main axis at constant angular velocity. The formulations are especially suitable for the study of the interaction of a solid with a non-rotating structure, such as occurs in the coupled dynamics of a railway wheelset with the track. With respect to previous publications that may adopt similar hypotheses, this paper proposes more compact formulations and eliminates certain numerical problems associated with the presence of second-order derivatives with respect to the spatial coordinates. Three different models are dev…
