Avian Clock gene polymorphism: evidence for a latitudinal cline in allele frequencies
2007
In comparison with most animal behaviours, circadian rhythms have a well-characterized molecular genetic basis. Detailed studies of circadian clock genes in 'model' organisms provide a foundation for interpreting the functional and evolutionary significance of polymorphic circadian clock genes found within free-living animal populations. Here, we describe allelic variation in a region of the avian Clock orthologue which encodes a functionally significant polyglutamine repeat (ClkpolyQcds), within free-living populations of two passerine birds, the migratory bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) and the predominantly nonmigratory blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus). Multiple ClkpolyQcds alleles were foun…
Updated Field Synopsis and Systematic Meta-Analyses of Genetic Association Studies in Cutaneous Melanoma: The MelGene Database
2015
We updated a field synopsis of genetic associations of cutaneous melanoma (CM) by systematically retrieving and combining data from all studies in the field published as of August 31, 2013. Data were available from 197 studies, which included 83,343 CM cases and 187,809 controls and reported on 1,126 polymorphisms in 289 different genes. Random-effects meta-analyses of 81 eligible polymorphisms evaluated in4 data sets confirmed 20 single-nucleotide polymorphisms across 10 loci (TYR, AFG3L1P, CDK10, MYH7B, SLC45A2, MTAP, ATM, CLPTM1L, FTO, and CASP8) that have previously been published with genome-wide significant evidence for association (P5 × 10(-8)) with CM risk, with certain variants pos…
Ighv Mutational Status By Deep Next Generation Sequencing Refines Ighv Sanger Sequencing Classification in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia
2019
Introduction: Determination of the mutational status of rearranged immunoglobulin heavy chain variable (IgHV) genes in patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL), is considered one of the most important prognostic factors: patients with unmutated IgHV (UM; ≥98% of identity to the germline) genes have a more aggressive disease course and develop more frequently unfavourable genetic deletions or mutations than patients with mutated IgHV (M; ≤98%). Mutational status, is currently determined by Sanger sequencing (Sseq) that allows the analysis of the major clone, however, international guidelines recommend caution in assigning mutational status in cases with "Borderline" IgHV identity (9…
Assessment preferences of preservice teachers: analysis according to academic level and relationship with learning styles and motivational orientation
2011
This study analyze the preferences of preservice teachers about different assessment procedures, and the relationship of these preferences with the students’ academic levels, learning styles and motivational orientations. The participants were 248 students in the Teaching degree program (124 first-year students and 124 in their third-year). The results confirmed that the preferences were structured on the basis of two orthogonal dimensions (preferences for conventional and non-conventional methods). There is also a sharp reduction in preferences for conventional procedures depending on the academic level considered, while a slight increase is observed in preferences for non-conventional one…
Yeast vectors for the integration/expression of any sequence at theTYR1 locus
2007
We have constructed new yeast vectors for targeted integration and conditional expression of any sequence at the Saccharomyces cerevisiae TYR1 locus which becomes disrupted. We show that vector integration is not neutral, causing prototrophy for tyrosine and auxotrophy for the vector's selectable marker (uracil or leucine, depending on the vector used). This feature allows a double screening of transformed yeast cells, improving the identification of colonies with the desired chromosomal structure. The GAL10 gene promoter has been added to drive conditional expression of cloned sequences. Using these vectors, chromosomal structure verification of recombinant clones is no longer necessary, s…
Genetic organization of the mle locus and identification of a mleR-like gene from Leuconostoc oenos
1996
Characterization of the mle locus harboring the malolactic enzyme gene mleA and malate permease gene mleP from Leuconostoc oenos was completed in this study by mRNA analysis. Northern (RNA) blot experiments revealed a 2.6-kb transcript, suggesting an operon structure harboring mleA and mleP genes. Primer extension analysis showed that the mle operon has a single transcription start site located 17 nucleotides upstream of the ATG translation start site for the mleA gene. We found sequences, TTGACT and TATGAT (which are separated by 18 bp), that are closely related to the gram-positive and Escherichia coli consensus promoter sequences. Upstream of the mleA gene, an 894-bp open reading frame t…
Enhanced surveillance of invasive listeriosis in the Lombardy region, Italy, in the years 2006-2010 reveals major clones and an increase in serotype …
2013
Background Invasive listeriosis is a rare, life-threatening foodborne disease. Lombardy, an Italian region accounting for 16% of the total population, reported 55% of all listeriosis cases in the years 2006-2010. The aim of our study was to provide a snapshot of listeriosis epidemiology in this region after the implementation of a voluntary laboratory-based surveillance system. Methods We characterized by serotyping, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, multilocus sequence typing and detection of epidemic clone markers, 134 isolates from 132 listeriosis cases, including 15 pregnancy-related cases, occurring in the years 2006-2010 in Lombardy. Demographic and clinical characteristics of cases h…

2014
loci classici of the Italian endemic vascular plants described for Apulia -.the italian endemic vascular plants described for apulia Region are presented. altogether, 66 italian endemics have their locus classicus in apulia, including 9 taxa whose protologues cite several localities, both in apulia and in other Regions.
«Cedit, hiems, tua durities» (CB 135): esordio primaverile e inno all'amore
2010
