Genetic risk factors and candidate biomarkers for Alzheimer s disease

2009

Alzheimer's disease is a multifactorial and progressive neurodegenerative disease, extremely diffused and with an increasing prevalence worldwide. There is an urgent need for biomarkers to diagnose AD early in its course. Furthermore, accurate biomarkers would be able to determine the clinical efficacy of novel neuroprotective strategies. Although the heritability of late-onset AD is high, our knowledge of the underlying putative susceptibility genes remains incomplete and the only unequivocally established late-onset AD gene is APOE. Nevertheless a number of susceptibility loci seems to influence the pathogenesis of AD, and variations in numerous genes have been considered to be important …

Rheological Characterization of Low-calorie Milk-based Salad Dressings

1992

Oil-in-water emulsions of different quantitative composition, containing milk powder and locust bean gum. as stabilizing agents, showed similar rheological behavior: time-dependent thixotropic character and yield stress. Thixograms obtained for each sample could be modelled through the Hahn equation for the different shear rates. The analysis of the Hahn parameter variation for each sample as a function of shear rate led to a function σ= f(γ, t). Predicted shear stress values had relative errors lower than 10% in 99.9% of the samples studied. Analysis of composition influence on the rheological parameters showed an interactive role of gum, milk and acetic acid concentrations on emulsion con…

On Shimura subvarieties of the Prym locus

2018

We show that families of Pryms of abelian Galois covers of $\mathbb{P}^1$ in $A_{g-1}$ (resp. $A_g$) do not give rise to high dimensional Shimura subvareties.

The Oort conjecture on Shimura curves in the Torelli locus of hyperelliptic curves

2017

Abstract Oort has conjectured that there do not exist Shimura varieties of dimension >0 contained generically in the Torelli locus of genus-g curves when g is sufficiently large. In this paper we prove the analogue of this conjecture for Shimura curves with respect to the hyperelliptic Torelli locus of genus g > 7 .

The Rare IL22RA2 Signal Peptide Coding Variant rs28385692 Decreases Secretion of IL-22BP Isoform-1, -2 and -3 and Is Associated with Risk for Multipl…

2020

The IL22RA2 locus is associated with risk for multiple sclerosis (MS) but causative variants are yet to be determined. In a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) screen of this locus in a Basque population, rs28385692, a rare coding variant substituting Leu for Pro at position 16 emerged significantly (p = 0.02). This variant is located in the signal peptide (SP) shared by the three secreted protein isoforms produced by IL22RA2 (IL-22 binding protein-1(IL-22BPi1), IL-22BPi2 and IL-22BPi3). Genotyping was extended to a Europe-wide case-control dataset and yielded high significance in the full dataset (p = 3.17 &times

Sequence of the new Drosophila melanogaster small heat-shock-related gene, lethal(2) essential for life [l(2)efl], at locus 59F4,5.

1995

Abstract In this study, we report the molecular cloning of a novel Drosophila melanogaster small heat-shock (HS)-homologous gene, l(2)efl, identified on the right arm of the second chromosome at locus 59F4,5. We describe the temporal expression of l(2)efl in the wild-type and present its structure. The deduced amino-acid sequence of the Efl protein shows significant homology to all known small HS proteins identified in Drosophila and vertebrates, and to mammalian α-crystallin.

Identity Distress, Psychosocial Maturity, and Adaptive Functioning Among University Students

2011

The Identity Distress Scale (IDS) was developed as a clinical indicator of severe disturbance or interference in identity development (Berman, Montgomery, & Kurtines, 2004) based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as identity disorder (DSM–III–R) and, subsequently, as identity problem (DSM–IV). This study examined various indices of identity distress as indexed by the IDS in relation to several antecedents and outcome measures among university students in Canada and Spain. Prevalence rates of 9.7% for identity disorder and 18.8% for identity problem were consistent for these students. Identity distress inversely related to psychosocial maturity as measured by ego s…
