Ecological education and ecological awareness of polish society
2018
Economical evaluation of ecological benefits of the demand side management
2014
Environmental pollution and over-exploitation of non-renewable sources to find energy are current topics for the modern world that is now at having to deal with several issues such as the greenhouse effect, acid rain and climate change. In this study, the economical estimate of the savings in carbon dioxide obtained with a careful management of electrical loads is presented. Four particular scenarios are designed as case studies: Italy, France, United Kingdom and Germany. A comparison is presented with a similar study, made in 2007, when green energies were not yet very developed.
APPLYING SUSTAINABLE MARKETING STRATEGIES – THE KEY TO OBTAINING COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES ON THE INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS MARKET
2014
The crux of any marketing strategy is to give business an advantage in a competitive market. The success of implementing a strategy is measured in economic terms by: sales volume, market share, profits, listed stock prices etc. In general, managers attach too much importance to obtaining short-term profit and ignore or disregard the profit made by the company in the long run. If for a company the only objective is to achieve economic success in the short term, then the interest in the direction of sustainable development is not the subject of the discussion. The studies published in various economy publications, the media debates, the actions undertaken by different NGOs frequently bring to…
Habitual physical activity and heart rate variability in 12-year old children
2012
ABSTRACT Wennman, Heini 2012. Habitual physical activity and heart rate variability in 12-year old children. Department of Biology of Physical Activity, University of Jyväskylä, 92p. The study of heart rate variability (HRV) provides useful information about the function of the cardiac autonomic nervous system. The effects of many environmental factors on HRV are well known, but the associations between physical activity (PA) and HRV, especially in children, are less investigated. Higher HRV is related to health and many pathologic conditions are associated with reduced HRV. Exercise causes HRV to diminish, but improves HRV in long term. PA promotes many health related changes in energy met…
Physiological and autonomic stress responses after prolonged sleep restriction and subsequent recovery sleep in healthy young men
2018
Purpose Sleep restriction is increasingly common and associated with the development of health problems. We investigated how the neuroendocrine stress systems respond to prolonged sleep restriction and subsequent recovery sleep in healthy young men. Methods After two baseline (BL) nights of 8 h time in bed (TIB), TIB was restricted to 4 h per night for five nights (sleep restriction, SR, n = 15), followed by three recovery nights (REC) of 8 h TIB, representing a busy workweek and a recovery weekend. The control group (n = 8) had 8 h TIB throughout the experiment. A variety of autonomic cardiovascular parameters, together with salivary neuropeptide Y (NPY) and cortisol levels, were assessed.…
The relationship between leisure-time physical activity and stress on workdays with special reference to heart rate variability analyses
2016
The purpose of this study was to investigate how physical activity (PA), cardio- respiratory fitness, and body composition are associated with objective heart rate variability (HRV)-based indicators of stress and recovery on workdays. Additionally, the association of subjective self-reported stress with HRV-based stress was investigated. Samples of 81 healthy men (age 26–40 years), and 16 275 Finnish employees (6863 men and 9412 women; age 18–65 years) were assessed in the cross-sectional analyses. A sample of 221 overweight psychologically distressed individuals (36 men and 185 women; age 26–60 years) was examined in both cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses. HRV-based stress and reco…
The Relational Syllogistic Revisited
2013
The relational syllogistic is an extension of the language of Classical syllogisms in which predicates are allowed to feature transitive verbs with quantified objects. It is known that the relational syllogistic does not admit a finite set of syllogism-like rules whose associated (direct) derivation relation is sound and complete. We present a modest ex- tension of this language which does.
OUR MOTHER OF THE WOODS. A CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF THE "MADONNAS OF THE TREES" IN THE EURO-MEDITERRANEAN AREA
2016
Looking at the Madonnas of the trees, we see how an anthropologist disregarding historical depth renounces an integral vision of reality by which it can be measured and interpreted, giving rise «to sometimes narrow, sometimes even grotesque results; with an unexpected resurrection, however, of a banally sociological perspective, in many cases hidden under the false pretences of social anthropology». The effects of such a surrender are particularly evident when we explore the symbolic dimension. In fact, a purely synchronic approach proves to be totally inadequate: «research can be restored its critical depth and substance by paying attention to the processes of construction of meaning and t…
Hysteretic Systems Subjected to Delta Correlated Input
1994
The paper deals with the evaluation of the probabilistic response of a single degree of freedom elastic-perfectly plastic system subjected to a delta correlated input process. The probabilistic characterisation of the response is here obtained by considering the accumulated plastic deformations as a compound homogeneous Poisson process independent of the external input. In this case the former can be considered as an external noise acting on the linear system. A closed form solution is also obtained and the analytic expression is compared with the customary Monte-Carlo method.
Rotational collisional line broadening at high temperatures in the N2 fundamental Q-branch studied with stimulated Raman spectroscopy
1986
Self broadened N 2 Q-branch spectra are measured by high resolution stimulated Raman spectroscopy in the pressure region 0.25-1.9 atm. and in the temperature range 295-1310 K. Non additivity of the Q(J) components due to line overlap arising in the highest pressure range explored is carefully taken into account. Excellent fit of the whole spectra is thus obtained for each pressure with linearly density-dependent line widths. Semi-classical calculations of the line-broadening coefficients lead to consistent values with all the measured ones. These calculations are extended to higher J values and to higher temperatures (up to 2500 K). At last, a simple phenomenological model based on a polyno…
