Rosenbluth Separation of the π^{0} Electroproduction Cross Section.

We present deeply virtual $\pi^0$ electroproduction cross-section measurements at $x_B$=0.36 and three different $Q^2$--values ranging from 1.5 to 2 GeV$^2$, obtained from experiment E07-007 that ran in the Hall A at Jefferson Lab. The Rosenbluth technique was used to separate the longitudinal and transverse responses. Results demonstrate that the cross section is dominated by its transverse component, and thus is far from the asymptotic limit predicted by perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics. An indication of a non-zero longitudinal contribution is provided by the interference term $\sigma_{LT}$ also measured. Alterations in membrane and firing properties of layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons following focal laser lesions in rat visual cortex.

Focal cortical injuries are well known to cause changes in function and excitability of the surviving cortical areas but the cellular correlates of these physiological alterations are not fully understood. In the present study we employed a well established ex vivo-in vitro model of focal laser lesions in the rat visual cortex and we studied membrane and firing properties of the surviving layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons. The nitric oxide (NO)/cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling cascade participates in the modulation of synaptic transmission. The effects of NO are mediated by the NO-sensitive cGMP-forming guanylyl cyclases (NO-GCs), which exist in 2 isoforms with indistinguishable regulatory properties. Ipecac, containing emetine hydrochloride, is used by patients with anorexia nervosa to induce vomiting. Its chronic usage may result in a myopathy and a cardiomyopathy, the former marked by cytoplasmic bodies. We studied myopathological changes after daily injections of female Wistar rats with emetine hydrochloride intraperitoneally for periods of 4, 5, 9, and 10 weeks. the extensor digitorum longus muscle and the soleus muscle showed core-like lesions, streaming of the z-discs, nemaline bodies, cytoplasmic bodies, and spheroid cytoplasmic bodies. A case involving a girl who died at 11 years of age and who had developed normally until the age of 18 months, at which time further psychomotor maturation stopped and then regressed, is reported. The patient appeared hypotonic and showed loss of deep tendon reflexes, as well as bulbar signs and increasing immobility. Visual impairment resulted in blindness at the age of 7 years. Her disease was diagnosed as late infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy (LINAD) after examination of sural nerve biopsy samples and after autopsy. Multi-particle azimuthal correlations in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

Measurements of multi-particle azimuthal correlations (cumulants) for charged particles in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions are presented. They help address the question of whether there is evidence for global, flow-like, azimuthal correlations in the p-Pb system. Comparisons are made to measurements from the larger Pb-Pb system, where such evidence is established. In particular, the second harmonic two-particle cumulants are found to decrease with multiplicity, characteristic of a dominance of few-particle correlations in p-Pb collisions. In this report we used hierarchical models to evaluate the associations of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), estradiol (E(2) ), and testosterone (T) with peripubertal bone growth in a 7-year longitudinal study. The impact of long-term water level draw-down on microbial biomass : A comparative study from two peatland sites with different nutrient status

We examined the effects of long-term (51 years) drainage on peat microbial communities using phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) analysis. We analysed the peat profiles of natural and adjacent drained fen and bog sites. Viable microbes (i.e. microbial PLFA) were present in relatively large amounts even in the deepest peat layers of both peatland sites, a finding that warrants further investigation. Microbial biomass was generally higher in the fen than in the bog. Microbial community structure (indexed from PLFA) differed between the fen and bog sites and among depths.
