Investigating Long-Range Dependence in E-Commerce Web Traffic
2016
This paper addresses the problem of investigating long-range dependence (LRD) and self-similarity in Web traffic. Popular techniques for estimating the intensity of LRD via the Hurst parameter are presented. Using a set of traces of a popular e-commerce site, the presence and the nature of LRD in Web traffic is examined. Our results confirm the self-similar nature of traffic at a Web server input, however the resulting estimates of the Hurst parameter vary depending on the trace and the technique used.
The long and winding road of enterprise architecture implementation in the Finnish public sector
2018
This thesis examines the implementation of enterprise architecture (EA) in the Finnish public sector. EA is a systematic approach for analysing, visualising, developing and governing the functions and structures of organisations. It describes how organisations businesses, information and systems function as a whole. Research and practice have shown the implementation of EA is challenging and slow to advance. Finland provides a prolific area for research since the use of EA is mandatory in public sector, which is rare amongst countries taking a whole-of-government EA approach. In order to research EA as a method for systemic change, a suitable theoretical framing was necessary. The context, …
First measurement of the Sivers asymmetry for gluons using SIDIS data
2017
The Sivers function describes the correlation between the transverse spin of a nucleon and the transverse motion of its partons. It was extracted from measurements of the azimuthal asymmetry of hadrons produced in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering of leptons off transversely polarised nucleon targets, and it turned out to be non-zero for quarks. In this letter the evaluation of the Sivers asymmetry for gluons in the same process is presented. The analysis method is based on a Monte Carlo simulation that includes three hard processes: photon-gluon fusion, QCD Compton scattering and leading-order virtual-photon absorption process. The Sivers asymmetries of the three processes are simul…
Does organized sport participation during youth predict healthy habits in adulthood? : A 28-year longitudinal study
2018
Health behaviors in youth can predict the same behaviors later in life, but the role of sport participation in predicting healthy lifestyle habits is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between participation in organized youth sport and adult healthy lifestyle habits. Data from the longitudinal Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (YFS) with a 28‐year follow‐up were used. The participation in sport‐club training sessions was self‐reported by 9‐18‐year‐olds in 1983 and 1986 (n = 1285). During 2011, participants (aged 37‐43‐year old) reported their smoking status, alcohol consumption, fruit and vegetable consumption, and physical activity. Odd ratios (OR) were calcula…
The Level of Satisfying the Care and Health Needs of Elderly People (70+) in Opolskie Voivodship
2020
The progressive aging process of Polish society is becoming an increasing challenge for central, regional and local authorities. The increase in the number of elderly people influences the growing demand for health and care services. In order to show in which poviats of the Opolskie Voivodship the problem is most acute, the article attempts to assess the degree of satisfying the health and care needs of elderly people (70+) in particular poviats in the Opolskie Voivodship in 2018. Using the synthetic measure of development (SMR), a ranking of poviats in Opolskie voivodship has been created according to the degree of satisfying the care and health needs of elderly people (70+). The highest l…
Możliwości rozwoju przedsiębiorstw świadczących osobom starszym usługi zdrowotne i opiekuńcze w poszczególnych województwach w Polsce
2018
Aby wykazać, w których regionach kraju istnieją największe możliwości rozwoju prywatnej inicjatywy w zakresie świadczenia usług zdrowotnych i opiekuńczych, opracowano diagnozę stopnia zaspokojenia tych potrzeb osób starszych (65+) w poszczególnych województwach w Polsce w 2015 r. Wykorzystując syntetyczną miarę rozwoju (SMR) [Panek, 2009], wykazano, że najmniejsze możliwości rozwoju prywatnych przedsiębiorstw występują w województwie małopolskim, w dalszej kolejności podkarpackim i lubelskim. Najwięcej niepublicznych placówek powinno powstawać z kolei w wojew…

Experimental approaches to study the transmission and infection of Cardiocephaloides longicollis (Rudolphi, 1819) Dubois, 1982 (Trematoda, Strigeidae…
2023
