The Lr-Variational Integral
2022
AbstractWe define the $$L^r$$ L r -variational integral and we prove that it is equivalent to the $$HK_r$$ H K r -integral defined in 2004 by P. Musial and Y. Sagher in the Studia Mathematica paper The$$L^{r}$$ L r -Henstock–Kurzweil integral. We prove also the continuity of $$L^r$$ L r -variation function.
Spatial Reconstruction Algorithm of DT Layer in Cryogenic Targets Using Optical Techniques
2007
The measurements of the solid DT layer, in terms of thickness and roughness, in the LMJ geometry (i.e. in a hohlraum) are not trivial. The DT layer measurements will be done using a Matsukov-Cassegrain telescope placed 39 cm away from the target. This telescope will be used to acquire shadowgraphy images on equators, and interferometric measurements on pole areas using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Optical coherence tomography allows determining the DT layer thickness on a few points, in the polar regions of the target. By scanning around the poles, several points can be acquired in order to calculate the roughness and the local shape of the DT layer at the pole. Both techniques were …
Negative association between parental care and sibling cooperation in earwigs: a new perspective on the early evolution of family life?
2015
International audience; The evolution of family life requires net fitness benefits for offspring, which are commonly assumed to mainly derive from parental care. However, an additional source of benefits for offspring is often overlooked: cooperative interactions among juvenile siblings. In this study, we examined how sibling cooperation and parental care could jointly contribute to the early evolution of family life. Specifically, we tested whether the level of food transferred among siblings (sibling cooperation) in the European earwig F orficula auricularia (1) depends on the level of maternal food provisioning (parental care) and (2) is translated into offspring survival, as well as fem…

Glimpses of the Hereafter in the Late-Medieval Thet Freske Riim
2014
The article analyzes a passage of the narrative poem Thet Freske Riim, one of the few non-legal texts preserved in Old Frisian. The passage in question is a digression describing the Joys of Heaven and the Horrors of Hell, which so far has attracted little attention in the scholarly literature on medieval accounts of the hereafter. The representations of the afterlife and its realms circulating in Medieval Europe draw inspiration from a wide body of both orthodox and apocryphal literature on ecstatic dreams, of which one of the most influential work is the Visio Sancti Pauli or Apocalypse of Paul. The study aims to identify – in the examined passage – themes and features of otherworldly lit…
Characterization of somatostatin- and cholecystokinin-immunoreactive periglomerular cells in the rat olfactory bulb.
2005
Periglomerular cells (PG) are interneurons of the olfactory bulb (OB) that modulate the first synaptic relay of the olfactory information from the olfactory nerve to the dendrites of the bulbar principal cells. Previous investigations have pointed to the heterogeneity of these interneurons and have demonstrated the presence of two different types of PG. In the rat OB, type 1 PG receive synaptic contacts from the olfactory axons and are γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-ergic, whereas type 2 PG do not receive synaptic contacts from the olfactory axons and are GABA immunonegative. In this study, we analyze and characterize neurochemically a group of PG that has not been previously classified either …
Coexpression of neurocalcin with other calcium-binding proteins in the rat main olfactory bulb
1999
The distribution patterns of four calcium-binding proteins (CaBPs)-calbindin D-28k (CB), calretinin (CR), neurocalcin (NC), and parvalbumin (PV)-in the rat main olfactory bulb were compared, and the degrees ofcolocalization of NC with the other CaBPs were determined by using double immunocytochemical techniques. All investigated CaBPs were detected in groups of periglomerular cells and Van Gehuchten cells, whereas other cell types expressed some of the investigated proteins but not all four. Double-labeling techniques demonstrated the colocalization of NC with CB, CR, or PV in periglomerular cells, whereas each neurochemical group constituted entirely segregated populations in the remaining…
Investigating sales and advertising rivalry in the UK multipurpose vehicle market (1995–2002)
2007
To what extent do managers account for rivals’ advertising responses? We employ static and dynamic panel techniques to derive estimates that are used to test whether the Dorfman-Steiner optimality condition held in the UK multipurpose vehicle (MPV) market between 1995 and 2002. We show that omitting the response of own advertising to rivals’ advertising leads to substantially lower optimal levels of advertising expenditure compatible with non-retaliation strategies. When recognition of interdependence by the members of the oligopoly is taken into account, the Dorfman-Steiner condition holds. To complete the analysis of the advertising-sales relationship we also examine advertising determina…
Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR), and Outcomes with Nivolumab in Pretreated Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC…
2020
Introduction: Immune checkpoint inhibitors have provided substantial benefit in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with unprecedented results in terms of survival. However, the identification of reliable predictive biomarkers to these agents is lacking and multiple clinicopathological factors have been evaluated. The aim of this study was to analyze the potential role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in patients with pretreated NSCLC receiving nivolumab. Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter study involving 14 Italian centers, evaluating the role of some laboratory results in patients with NSCLC treat…
On the Post-Elastic Behavior of LRPH Connections
2019
The paper concerns the study of the post-elastic behavior of a recently proposed innovative device, named Limited Resistance Rigid Perfectly Plastic Hinge (LRPH). In particular, LRPH is a steel device of finite length realizing a moment connection between beam elements of a steel frame; it is designed in order to possess two main and independent requirements: its bending moment resistance must be suitably lower than the one of the connected beam element and its overall bending stiffness must be equal to that of the connected beam element characterized by the same length. In order to make the proposed device reliable, LRPH must be capable of realizing a full plastic hinge for the assigned be…
