A new tool to create on-line examinations. Integration into Aula Virtual.
2009
2015
[EN] Non-parametric regression methods are powerful statistical methods to retrieve biophysical parameters from remote sensing measurements. However, their performance can be affected by what has been presented during the training phase. To ensure robust retrievals, various cross-validation sub-sampling methods are often used, which allow to evaluate the model with subsets of the field dataset. Here, two types of cross-validation techniques were analyzed in the development of non-parametric regression models: hold-out and k-fold. Selected non-parametric linear regression methods were least squares Linear Regression (LR) and Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR), and nonlinear methods were…
Transient features of the thalamic reticular nucleus in the human foetal brain
1998
The architectonic organization and neuronal types of the human foetal reticular nucleus (RN)--with special reference to transient characteristics--have been investigated using antisera against calretinin, parvalbumin and neurofilament epitopes of somata and dendrites (SMI 311). The RN consists of four subdivisions (clearly distinguishable in the 6/7th gestational month): The main portion appears as a prominent structure on account of its extension and high packing density of neurons which coexpress calretinin and parvalbumin. These two calcium-binding proteins are also expressed by the perireticular nucleus forming a conspicuous grey within the internal capsule. Perireticular cells form clu…
IL LEGISLATORE TEDESCO ALLARGA LE MAGLIE DELLA REVISIONE CONTRA REUM: L'ASSOLUZIONE PER DELITTI GRAVI E IMPRESCRITTIBILI PUÒ ESSERE MESSA IN DISCUSSI…
2022

The laparoscopic approach to Acute Mesenteric Ischemia is today unclear and less debated (AMI). There are in fact no clinical evidences on this particular focus and only few articles can be found in several databases (pubmed, cochrane library, etc.), and the problem concerns both diagnostic and therapeutic utilization of the procedure. These considerations were already taken into account in 2012 EAES guidelines where the Grade of Recommendation (GoR) of laparoscopy in AMI was low in both diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. According to the new Oxford Classification [1], the use of laparoscopy in patients with suspicious or diagnosed AMI presents a weak GoR.
DECORIN EFFECTS ON PROTEOMIC PROFILING OF BREAST CANCER CELLS: AN UPDATED STUDY
2015
The malignant carcinomas are characterized by several capabilities acquired by the neoplastic cells, among which the ability to invade the extracellular matrix (ECM) and to establish a crosstalk with several ECM components. Under this respect, the extracellular microenvironment is an entity extraordinarily rich of information with opposite signals. Our group has long undertaken the study of the effects of ECM molecules on the behavior of cancer cells in vitro. Among the studied molecules, the decorin was found to exert a non-permissive effect on the growth and motility of the transfected tumor cells. The decorin, belongs to the family of small leucine-rich proteoglycans (SLRP) and is involv…
Inhibitory influence of chromogranin A N-terminal fragment (vasostatin-1) on the spontaneous contractions of rat proximal colon
2005
Very little is known about the role played by CGA and its fragments in the gastrointestinal physiology. We have studied the role of CGA N-terminal fragments in the regulation of intestinal smooth muscle contractility by measuring the influence of recombinant CGA 1-78 (VS-1) and synthetic CGA 7-57 peptides on the spontaneous mechanical activity of rat proximal colon in vitro. The mechanical activity was recorded as changes in the intraluminal pressure. VS-1 (0.1-30 nM) and CGA 7-57 (10-300 nM) produced concentration-dependent inhibitory effects, characterized by a progressive decrease in the mean amplitude of circular muscle spontaneous contractions, without affecting the resting tone. The r…
Protein dynamics observed by tunable mid-IR quantum cascade lasers across the time range from 10 ns to 1 s
2017
We have developed a spectrometer based on tunable quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) for recording time-resolved absorption spectra of proteins in the mid-infrared range. We illustrate its performance by recording time-resolved difference spectra of bacteriorhodopsin in the carboxylic range (1800–1700 cm− 1) and on the CO rebinding reaction of myoglobin (1960–1840 cm− 1), at a spectral resolution of 1 cm− 1. The spectrometric setup covers the time range from 4 ns to nearly a second with a response time of 10–15 ns. Absorption changes as low as 1 × 10− 4 are detected in single-shot experiments at t > 1 μs, and of 5 × 10− 6 in kinetics obtained after averaging 100 shots. While previous time-res…

Mechanisms of Synergy Between Toll-Like Receptor 4 and Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid Cells-1 in Human Neutrophils
2008
Abstract The triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM-1) is an important player in the innate inflammatory response to microbial infections. Activation and expression of TREM-1 by polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) occurs in concert with Toll-like receptors (TLR) such as TLR4 for bacterial lipopolysaccharide. However, it is currently unclear how this is mediated on a molecular level. Using pharmacologic inhibitors and western blot analysis we demonstrate that phosphatidyl inositide 3-kinase, phospholipase C and the mitogen activated kinase p38 are essential for the TREM-1 and TLR4 mediated respiratory burst of human PMN. The down stream phosphorylation of protein kinase B and…
