Knee arthroplasty until age 60 : role of sports and other injuries

BACKROUND: The primary aim of the study was to investigate how total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients with underlying injuries differ in injury type and physical activity after the arthroplasty. METHODS: A questionnaire was sent to TKA patients, < 60 years at surgery, and knee injury as the cause of knee OA. The final study group consisted of 70 patients. RESULTS: Average age of patients at TKA was 51.8 years (Standard Deviation [SD] 5.2), and at follow-up 57.6 years (SD 6.5). Of the injuries, 26% were sports-related, 29% had occurred at work, 23% in traffic accidents, and 13% during leisure-time (no sports-related). Abstract Barrett’s esophagus progresses to high-grade dysplasia or cancer along the well-established metaplasia-dysplasia-adenocarcinoma sequence. The aim of this study was to evaluate the value of p53, Ki67, and toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) in prediction of malignant progression of Barrett’s metaplasia and low-grade dysplasia. Aizvien vairāk pētījumu tiek veltīti palīdzošajām profesijām, un pievērsta lielāka uzmanība tam, kādu iespaidu trauma var atstāt arī uz tiem cilvēkiem, kas sniedz atbalstu traumu upuriem. Bakalaura pētījuma darba mērķis ir noskaidrot, vai pastāv savstarpējas saistības starp trīs konstruktiem - sekundāro traumu, stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģijām un aizstājošo posttraumatisko izaugsmi - krīzes un atbalsta tāruņa konsultantu izlasē. Pētījuma gaitā tiek apskatīts optoelektronikā daudz pielietojams perovskitveida kristāls – YAlO3 (YAP). Tam tiek modelēta kristāliskā režģa dinamika, izmantojot pirmo principu (ab initio) un klasiskās molekulārdinamikas aprēķinus programmā CRYSTAL un GULP. Iegūtas fononu dispersijas un stāvokļu blīvumu līknes, eksperimentāli ģenerēti Ramana un infrasarkanie spektri. Ar rentgenstaru difrakciju noteikti YAP kristāla režģa parametri, tie salīdzināti ar DFT un klasisko aprēķinu optimizēto struktūru. Induction of body weight loss through RNAi-knockdown of APOBEC1 gene expression in transgenic rabbits

In the search of new strategies to fight against obesity, we targeted a gene pathway involved in energy uptake. We have thus investigated the APOB mRNA editing protein (APOBEC1) gene pathway that is involved in fat absorption in the intestine. The APOB gene encodes two proteins, APOB100 and APOB48, via the editing of a single nucleotide in the APOB mRNA by the APOBEC1 enzyme. The APOB48 protein is mandatory for the synthesis of chylomicrons by intestinal cells to transport dietary lipids and cholesterol. We produced transgenic rabbits expressing permanently and ubiquitously a small hairpin RNA targeting the rabbit APOBEC1 mRNA. These rabbits exhibited a moderately but significantly reduced …
