Cholera-Like Enterotoxins and Regulatory T cells

2010

Cholera toxin (CT) and the heat-labile enterotoxin of E. coli (LT), as well as their non toxic mutants, are potent mucosal adjuvants of immunization eliciting mucosal and systemic responses against unrelated co-administered antigens in experimental models and in humans (non toxic mutants). These enterotoxins are composed of two subunits, the A subunit, responsible for an ADP-ribosyl transferase activity and the B subunit, responsible for cell binding. Paradoxically, whereas the whole toxins have adjuvant properties, the B subunits of CT (CTB) and of LT (LTB) have been shown to induce antigen specific tolerance when administered mucosally with antigens in experimental models as well as, rece…

Studi tassonomici sulle popolazioni italiane di Halocnemum strobilaceum (Amaranthaceae)

2012

Halocnemum strobilaceum (Pall.)

LTB4 is present in exudative pleural effusions and contributes actively to neutrophil recruitment in the inflamed pleural space

2004

SUMMARY The pleural space is a virtual compartment between the lung and chest wall that becomes filled with fluid and inflammatory cells during a variety of respiratory diseases. Here, we study the potential role of the eicosanoid metabolite leukotriene B4 (LTB4) in disparate diseases leading to acute (pneumonia) or chronic (tuberculosis, cancer) inflammation of the pleural space. LTB4 concentrations were significantly higher in pleural fluid due to pneumonia, tuberculosis and cancer with respect to congestive heart failure and correlated with neutrophil elastase, which is used as an indication of state of activation of neutrophils in the pleural space. Moreover, pleural LTB4 was biological…

TGF-β Signaling Pathways in Different Compartments of the Lower Airways of Patients With Stable COPD

2017

Background: The expression and localization of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) pathway proteins in different compartments of the lower airways of patients with stable COPD is unclear. We aimed to determine TGF-β pathway protein expression in patients with stable COPD. Methods: The expression and localization of TGF-β pathway components was measured in the bronchial mucosa and peripheral lungs of patients with stable COPD (n = 44), control smokers with normal lung function (n = 24), and control nonsmoking subjects (n = 11) using immunohistochemical analysis. Results: TGF-β1, TGF-β3, and connective tissue growth factor expression were significantly decreased in the bronchiolar epithelium…

High Dimensional Immune Profiling Reveals Different Response Patterns in Active and Latent Tuberculosis Following Stimulation With Mycobacterial Glyc…

2021

Upon infection withMycobacterium tuberculosis(Mtb) the host immune response might clear the bacteria, control its growth leading to latent tuberculosis (LTB), or fail to control its growth resulting in active TB (ATB). There is however no clear understanding of the features underlying a more or less effective response. Mtb glycolipids are abundant in the bacterial cell envelope and modulate the immune response to Mtb, but the patterns of response to glycolipids are still underexplored. To identify the CD45+leukocyte activation landscape induced by Mtb glycolipids in peripheral blood of ATB and LTB, we performed a detailed assessment of the immune response of PBMCs to the Mtb glycolipids lip…

Asfaltbetona rūpnīcas modernizācijas projekts

2019

Maģistra darba tēma “Asfaltbetona rūpnīcas modernizācijas projekts”. Reciklētā asfalta pielietošana jaunu asfaltbetona maisījumu ražošanā visā pasaulē pieaug, taču Latvija reciklētā asfalta izmantošanas ziņā ir krietni iepalikusi no Rietumeiropas un Amerikas. Pētījuma mērķis ir veicināt asfaltbetona maisījuma ražošanas efektivitātes pieaugumu Latvijā. Autors pētījumā izvirza konkrēto problēmu - reciklētā asfalta neefektīva atkārtota izmantošana. Problēmas risinājumu autors piedāvā projekta veidā. Rezultātā autors izstrādā projekta “Asfaltbetona rūpnīcas modernizācijas projekts” rokasgrāmatu. Darba galvenie uzdevumi ir izpētīt Latvijas ceļu nozari, izpētīt asfaltbetona ražošanas procesu un v…

Ģeoradara izmantošana asfaltbetona segas porainības noteikšanā

2017

Maģistra darbs “Ģeoradara izmantošana asfaltbetona segas porainības noteikšanā” veltīts radiolokācijas metodikas attīstīšanai asfaltbetona porainības un biezuma pētīšanai ar ģeoradaru. Līdzšinējos pētījumos maz uzmanība pievērsta ceļu būvē izmantoto materiālu elektromagnētiskajām īpašībām, kas sarežģī ģeoradara pielietošanu ceļa veidojošo kārtu biezuma un porainības mērījumos. Minētais nosaka pētījuma aktualitāti. Pētījumā tiek sniegts pētījumu teorijas apraksts, izmantoto radiolokācijas un ģeoloģisko pētījumu, laboratorijas analīžu, radiolokācijas ierakstu apraksts un to interpretācija. Secināts, ka ar metāla plātnes testu iegūtās dielektriskās caurlaidības koeficientu ɛ′ nevar pielietot a…

Novel Perspectives in the Detection of Oral and Nasal Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Pediatric United Airway Diseases

2010

United airway disease (UAD) concept proposed that asthma and rhinitis are both different clinical manifestation of a single inflammatory process. The aim of this study is to assess in upper and lower airways the level of inflammation and oxidative stress and to investigate the relationship between biomarkers in persistent allergic rhinitis (PER) and in concomitant asthma with PER. By a crosssectional study we measured oral and nasal (FENO) and oral and nasal EBC 8-isoprostane, LTB4 and PGE2 in children with PER (n=14) and with PER and concomitant intermittent asthma (IA; n=25), mild persistent asthma (mA; n=28), moderate persistent asthma (MA; n=13) and in Healthy Controls (HCs; n=13). Oral…
