Quid meruere nepotes. Responsabilità e merito nella Pharsalia di Lucano
2017
The paper deals with Lucan’s Pharsalia, reconstructing the contexts in which meritum and derivatives appear, images that both involve the notion of merit as that of responsibility. It is a highly visible and active presence within the poem, where such meanings frequently appear, characterizing both the …
Book of film analysis of one of the classic films of modern cinema. 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', 1981, directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas, these two great filmmakers create all cinematic imagery…
Lysis of yeast cells by Oenococcus oeni enzymes
2000
exhibited extracellular β (1→3) glucanase activity. This activity increased when cells were cultivated with glycosidic cell-wall macromolecules. In addition, the culture supernatant of the organism effectively lysed viable or dead cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This lytic activity appeared in the early stationary phase of bacterial growth. Yeast cells at the end of the log phase of growth were the most sensitive. The optimum temperature for lysis of viable yeast cells was 40°C, which is very different from the temperatures observed in enological conditions (15–20°C). Moreover, the rate of the lytic activity was significantly lower in comparison with yeast cell wall-degrading activities …
Synthesis of glycopeptides and neoglycoproteins containing the fucosylated linkage region of N-glycoproteins.
1994
Abstract N-Glycoproteins fucosylated in the core region occur in tumor membranes and virus envelopes. Partial structures of such N-glycoproteins containing fucosylated chitobiosyl asparagine conjugates were synthesized using the allyloxycarbonyl (Aloc) and the tert-butyl ester protecting groups in the peptide portion. As the α-fucosidic bond of the conjugates revealed to be very sensitive to acids when carrying ether-type protecting groups, a method for exchanging the protecting groups of the fucose portion of saccharides was developed. Conjugates containing O-acetyl protected fucose proved to be stable against acids used in glycopeptide syntheses. These methods were applied in the synthesi…
Novel GPR120 agonist TUG891 modulates fat taste perception and preference and activates tongue-brain-gut axis in mice
2020
GPR120 is implicated as a lipid receptor in the oro-sensory detection of dietary fatty acids. However, the effects of GPR120 activation on dietary fat intake or obesity are not clearly understood. We investigated to determine whether the binding of TUG891, a novel GPR120 agonist, to lingual GPR120 modulates fat preference in mice. We explored the effects of TUG891 on obesity-related hormones and conducted behavioral choice tests on mice to better understand the physiologic relevance of the action of TUG891. In cultured mouse and human taste bud cells (TBCs), TUG891 induced a rapid increase in Ca2+ by acting on GPR120. A long-chain dietary fatty acid, linoleic acid (LA), also recruited Ca2+ …
