Symptomatic COVID-19 in advanced-cancer patients treated with immune-checkpoint inhibitors. Prospective analysis from a multicentre observational tri…

2020

Background:This prospective, multicentre, observational INVIDIa-2 study is investigating the clinical efficacy of influenza vaccination in advanced-cancer patients receiving immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), enrolled in 82 Italian centres, from October 2019 to January 2020. The primary endpoint was the incidence of influenza-like illness (ILI) until 30 April 2020. All the ILI episodes, laboratory tests, complications, hospitalizations and pneumonitis were recorded. Therefore, the study prospectively recorded all the COVID-19 ILI events.Patients and methods:Patients were included in this non-prespecified COVID-19 analysis, if alive on 31 January 2020, when the Italian government declared …

A liposomal RNA vaccine inducing neoantigen-specific CD4+ T cells augments the antitumor activity of local radiotherapy in mice

2020

Antigen-encoding, lipoplex-formulated RNA (RNA-LPX) enables systemic delivery to lymphoid compartments and selective expression in resident antigen-presenting cells. We report here that the rejection of CT26 tumors, mediated by local radiotherapy (LRT), is further augmented in a CD8+ T cell-dependent manner by an RNA-LPX vaccine that encodes CD4+ T cell-recognized neoantigens (CD4 neoantigen vaccine). Whereas CD8+ T cells induced by LRT alone were primarily directed against the immunodominant gp70 antigen, mice treated with LRT plus the CD4 neoantigen vaccine rejected gp70-negative tumors and were protected from rechallenge with these tumors, indicating a potent poly-antigenic CD8+ T cell r…

The Role of p53 Signaling in Colorectal Cancer.

2021

Simple Summary The transcription factor p53 is a crucial tumor suppressor that regulates diverse cellular responses to protect against cancer development. Deactivating p53 signaling either by altering p53 regulators or by p53 mutations occurs frequently in human colorectal carcinoma (CRC). Forty-three percent of CRCs harbor p53 mutations that reduce wild-type p53 tumor suppressor activity and often provide neo-morphic functions, which contribute to tumorigenesis. In this review, we summarize wild-type p53 signaling, how it can be deregulated in CRC, and the functional and phenotypical effects of p53 mutations. We also discuss current therapeutic strategies of targeting p53. Abstract The tra…

Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT (R)) in Breast Cancer Survivors: A Randomized Clinical Trial Study

2018

Breast cancer (BC) requires a significant psychological adaptation once treatment is finished. There is growing evidence of how compassion training enhances psychological and physical well-being, however, there are very few studies analyzing the efficacy of compassion-based Interventions on BC survivors. Objective. To study the efficacy of the CognitivelyBased Compassion Training (CBCT) protocol in a BC survivor sample on quality of life, psychological well-being, fear of cancer recurrence, self-compassion, and compassion domains and mindfulness facets. Furthermore, enrollment, adherence, and satisfaction with the intervention were also analyzed. Methods. A randomized clinical trial was des…

Cellular mechanisms of IL-17-induced blood-brain barrier disruption.

2009

Recently T-helper 17 (Th17) cells were demonstrated to disrupt the blood-brain barrier (BBB) by the action of IL-17A. The aim of the present study was to examine the mechanisms that underlie IL-17A-induced BBB breakdown. Barrier integrity was analyzed in the murine brain endothelial cell line bEnd.3 by measuring the electrical resistance values using electrical call impedance sensing technology. Furthermore, in-cell Western blots, fluorescence imaging, and monocyte adhesion and transendothelial migration assays were performed. Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) was induced in C57BL/6 mice. IL-17A induced NADPH oxidase- or xanthine oxidase-dependent reactive oxygen species (ROS)…

Use of a Perioperative Web-Based Exercise Program for a Patient with Barrett’s Carcinoma Scheduled for Esophagectomy

2019

A poor preoperative functional capacity increases the perioperative risk. Therefore, a web-based exercise approach has been initiated for a careful supervision and individual support of patients during their perioperative cancer therapy. Here, we present the data of a 57-year-old patient, scheduled for esophagectomy. Beside a five-week neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT), the patient performed 10 weeks of a web-based prehabilitation exercise training (preconditioning) and continued the exercise program for 14 weeks after surgery. The patient performed 42 of 44 recommended training sessions in the preconditioning period in his home environment. This corresponds to a mean of 131 (±38) min of …

Determinación de la edad de un extranjero indocumentado : A propósito de la sentencia de la audiencia provincial de barcelona, de 24 de enero de 2020

2021

In recent years, immigration of minors has increased, which means that administrations establish a differentiated treatment for this sector of immigration due to the fact that they are minors; There are many aspects to take into account in these cases, including verifying the minority age, a fact that is more complicated when it comes to adolescents. This is what is analyzed by the Judgment of the Provincial Court of Barcelona, of January 24, 2020, which confirms the Resolution of the General Directorate of Attention to Children and Adolescents, which agreed to the closure of the homelessness file and the admission of the plaintiff in a Protection Center until the verification of their pers…

Time-Varying mHAP-III Is the Most Accurate Predictor of Survival in Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma Undergoing Transarterial Chemoembolization

2021

Introduction: The prognosis of patients undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is extremely variable, and a confounding factor is that TACE is often repeated several times. We retrospectively evaluated the accuracy of different prognostic scores and staging systems in estimating overall survival (OS) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: An analysis considering prognostic models as time-varying variables was performed, calculating OS from the time of TACE to the time of the subsequent treatment. Total follow-up time for each patient was therefore split into several observation times ac…
