A Comparative Analysis of the Electrophilicity of Organic Molecules between the Computed IPs and EAs and the HOMO and LUMO energies

[EN] The electrophilicity index, omega, of a series of substituted ethylenes used in some relevant organic reactions has been evaluated from the ionization potential JP) and the electron affinity (EA) computed by vertical ionization at the B3LYP/aug-cc-PVTZ level. The corresponding electrophilicity values are well correlated with those obtained from the HOMO and LUMO energies of the neutral molecules. The good linear correlation found between omega(I,A) and omega(H,L)(LBS), and between omega(H,L)(LBS) and omega(H,L)(SBS) allows to confirm the use of the easily available B3LYP/6-31G(*) HOMO and LUMO energies to obtain reasonable values of the global electrophilicity index of organic molecule…

The role of orbital control in product selectivity during electrophilic aromatic alkylation catalysed by zeolites was studied both theoretically and experimentally. In order to discuss this, the alkylation of toluene and m-xylene by methanol was carried out on a series of large-pore zeolites (HY). The changes in the para to ortho ratio observed on changing the framework Si/Al ratio of the zeolites were related to ab initio molecular orbital calculations of the LUMO energy of structurally alike model clusters but containing different tetrahedral cations around the active site. The synthesis, crystal structure, and magnetic properties of [Mo 3(CoCO)Se 4(dmpe) 3Cl 3] ( 1), [Mo 3(CoCl)Se 4(dmpe) 3Cl 3] ( 2), and [Mo 3(CoCl)Se 4(dmpe) 3Cl 3](TCNQ) ([ 2](TCNQ)) (dmpe = 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphanyl)ethane; TCNQ = 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinomethane) cubane-type complexes with 16, 15, and 14 metal electrons, respectively, are reported. Abstract A theoretical density functional theory study has been performed on a family of cationic iridium(III) complexes of the form [Ir(C^N)2(dtBubpy)]+ (dtBubpy = 4,4′-di-tert-butyl-2,2′-bipyridine), that incorporate 2-phenylpyridine (1, 2) and 1-phenylpyrazole (3, 4) cyclometallating C^N ligands functionalized with SF5 groups. [EN] The electrochemical and photophysical properties of a family of conjugated ligands and their iridium(III) cyclometallated complexes are described. They consist of a series of monocationic Ir-III bis-2-phenylpyridine complexes with p-phenylethynyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligands of different length. The structure of these ligands includes terminal acetylthiol or pyridine groups, which can provide good electrical contacts between metal electrodes. Previous time-resolved measurements on D149, the most-studied dye of the indoline family, had shown a fast time-component of 20–40 ps that had tentatively been attributed to structural relaxation. Using femtosecond transient absorption, we have investigated the isolated indoline donor unit (i.e., without acceptor group) and found an ultrafast decay characterized by two lifetimes of 3.5 and 23 ps. The mechanism of the ketene-imine Staudinger (KI-S) reaction between t-butyl-cyano ketene and N-phenyl phenylimine has been studied using DFT methods at the MPWB1K/6-311G(d) computational level. The reaction takes place through a two-step mechanism: (i) the first step is the nucleophilic attack of the imine nitrogen lone pair on the central carbon of the ketene yielding a zwitterionic (ZW) intermediate; (ii) the second step, which is the rate- and stereoselectivity-determining step, is a ring-closure process achieved by a nucleophilic attack of the terminal carbon atom of the ketene on the imine carbon atom. Adsorption and activation of O2 at Au chains on MgO/Mo thin films

We have investigated the adsorption of O(2) on Au(n) clusters (n = 1-6) supported by an ultra thin (3ML)MgO(001) film on Mo metal via density functional theory calculations. On thin films, these small clusters have chain like structures and their electronic states resemble 1D quantum well states. The Au(1-3) are charged by one electron whereas the larger Au(4-6) get two electrons from the substrate. This is confirmed both by the symmetries of the HOMO and LUMO states of the clusters and the Bader charge analysis. Labdane Diterpenes from Stachys plumosa

Three new labdane diterpenoids were isolated from the aerial parts of Stachys plumosa. The first two (1, 2) were the dextrorotatory enantiomers of the known 6-deoxyandalusol and 13-epijabugodiol. Structures were determined using NMR and MS techniques. The absolute stereochemistry of the third compound (3) was not experimentally proved.
