Covalent DNA adducts formed by benzo[c]chrysene in mouse epidermis and by benzo[c]chrysene fjord-region diol epoxides reacted with DNA and polynucleo…
1997
The metabolic activation in mouse skin of benzo[c]chrysene (B[c]C), a weakly carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) present in coal tar and crude oil, was investigated. Male Parkes mice were treated topically with 0.5 mumol of B[c]C, and DNA was isolated from the treated areas of skin at various times after treatment and analyzed by 32P-postlabeling. Seven adduct spots were detected, at a maximum level of 0.89 fmol of adducts/microgram of DNA. Four B[c]C-DNA adducts persisted in skin for at least 3 weeks. Treatment of mice with 0.5 mumol of the optically pure putative proximate carcinogens (+)- and (-)-trans-benzo[c]chrysene-9,10-dihydrodiols [(+)- and (-)-B[c]C-diols] led to th…
Combined spectroscopic and theoretical analysis of the binding of a water-soluble perylene diimide to DNA/RNA polynucleotides and G-quadruplexes.
2021
We present here a combined spectroscopic and theoretical analysis of the binding of N,N’-bis(2-(1-piperazino)ethyl)-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid diimide dichloride (PZPERY) to different biosubstrates. Absorbance titrations and circular dichroism experiments, melting studies and isothermal calorimetry (ITC) titrations reveal a picture where the binding to natural double-stranded DNA is very different from that to double and triple-stranded RNAs (poly(A)∙poly(U) and poly(U)∙poly(A)⁎poly(U)). As confirmed also by the structural and energetic details clarified by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, intercalation occurs for DNA, with a process driven by the combination of aggr…
Titration of poly(dA-dT) · poly(dA-dT) in solution at variable NaCl concentration
2004
CD and uv absorption data showed that high molecular weight poly(dA-dT) . poly(dA-dT), at 298 K, undergoes an acid-induced transition from B-double helix to random coil in NaCl solutions of different concentrations, ranging from 0.005 to 0.600M. Similarly, titration of the polynucleotide with a strong base causes duplex-to-single strands transition. The base- and acid-induced transitions were both reversible by back-titration (with an acid or, respectively, with a base): the apparent pKa were the same in both directions. However, the number of protons per titratable site (adenine N1) required to reach half-denaturation was in great excess over the stoichiometric value; to a much larger exte…
Circular dichroism of polynucleotides: Interactions of NiCl2 with poly(dA-dT).poly(dA-dT) and poly(dG-dC).poly(dG-dC) in a water-in-oil microemulsion.
2008
The thermal behavior of the synthetic, high molecular weight, double stranded polynucleotides poly(dA-dT)·poly(dA-dT) [polyAT] and poly(dG-dC)·poly(dG-dC) [polyGC] solubilized in the aqueous core of the quaternary water-in-oil cationic microemulsion CTAB|n-pentanol|n-hexane|water in the presence of increasing amounts of NiCl2 at several constant ionic strength values (NaCl) has been studied by means of circular dichroism and electronic absorption spectroscopies. In the microemulsive medium, both polynucleotides show temperature-induced modifications that markedly vary with both Ni(II) concentration and ionic strength. An increase of temperature causes denaturation of the polyAT duplex at lo…
Correspondence between some metabelian varieties and left nilpotent varieties
2021
Abstract In the class of left nilpotent algebras of index two it was proved that there are no varieties of fractional polynomial growth ≈ n α with 1 α 2 and 2 α 3 instead it was established the existence of a variety of fractional polynomial growth with α = 7 2 . In this paper we investigate similar problems for varieties of commutative or anticommutative metabelian algebras. We construct a correspondence between left nilpotent algebras of index two and commutative metabelian algebras or anticommutative metabelian algebras and we prove that the codimensions sequences of the corresponding algebras coincide up to a constant. This allows us to transfer the above results concerning varieties of…

Knot Theory, Jones Polynomial and Quantum Computing
2005
Knot theory emerged in the nineteenth century for needs of physics and chemistry as these needs were understood those days. After that the interest of physicists and chemists was lost for about a century. Nowadays knot theory has made a comeback. Knot theory and other areas of topology are no more considered as abstract areas of classical mathematics remote from anything of practical interest. They have made deep impact on quantum field theory, quantum computation and complexity of computation.
Polynomials generated by linear operators
2004
We study the class of Banach algebra-valued n n -homogeneous polynomials generated by the n t h n^{th} powers of linear operators. We compare it with the finite type polynomials. We introduce a topology w E F w_{EF} on E , E, similar to the weak topology, to clarify the features of these polynomials.
On an Inequality for Trigonometric Polynomials In Several Variables
1990
Publisher Summary This chapter presents trigonometric polynomials in n variables. Using the methods of approximation theory, an inequality can be extended to almost periodic functions and to still more general classes of functions as in the case for Bohr's inequality. However, no analogous result exists in the case of two variables. For the solution of problems containing small divisors, the estimate has to be completed by theorems concerning the best approximation of holomorphic functions by trigonometric polynomials in polystrips. The chapter also presents equations to provide an estimate for a differential operator.
Complex Numbers and Polynomials
2016
As mentioned in Chap. 1, for a given set and an operator applied to its elements, if the result of the operation is still an element of the set regardless of the input of the operator, then the set is said closed with respect to that operator.
