Real symplectic formulation of local special geometry

We consider a formulation of local special geometry in terms of Darboux special coordinates $P^I=(p^i,q_i)$, $I=1,...,2n$. A general formula for the metric is obtained which is manifestly $\mathbf{Sp}(2n,\mathbb{R})$ covariant. Unlike the rigid case the metric is not given by the Hessian of the real function $S(P)$ which is the Legendre transform of the imaginary part of the holomorphic prepotential. Rather it is given by an expression that contains $S$, its Hessian and the conjugate momenta $S_I=\frac{\partial S}{\partial P^I}$. Only in the one-dimensional case ($n=1$) is the real (two-dimensional) metric proportional to the Hessian with an appropriate conformal factor.

Universal formulas for characteristic classes on the Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces

This article can be seen as a sequel to the first author's article ``Chern classes of the tangent bundle on the Hilbert scheme of points on the affine plane'', where he calculates the total Chern class of the Hilbert schemes of points on the affine plane by proving a result on the existence of certain universal formulas expressing characteristic classes on the Hilbert schemes in term of Nakajima's creation operators. The purpose of this work is (at least) two-fold. On the graded identities and cocharacters of the algebra of 3×3 matrices

Abstract Let M2,1(F) be the algebra of 3×3 matrices over an algebraically closed field F of characteristic zero with non-trivial Z 2 -grading. We study the graded identities of this algebra through the representation theory of the hyperoctahedral group Z 2 ∼S n . After splitting the space of multilinear polynomial identities into the sum of irreducibles under the Z 2 ∼S n -action, we determine all the irreducible Z 2 ∼S n -characters appearing in this decomposition with non-zero multiplicity. We then apply this result in order to study the graded cocharacter of the Grassmann envelope of M2,1(F). Rolle's Theorem for Polynomials of Degree Four in a Hilbert Space

AbstractIn an infinite-dimensional real Hilbert space, we introduce a class of fourth-degree polynomials which do not satisfy Rolle's Theorem in the unit ball. Extending what happens in the finite-dimensional case, we show that every fourth-degree polynomial defined by a compact operator satisfies Rolle's Theorem.

For immunolocalization of alpha(2-8)-linked polysialic acid, which forms part of the neural cell adhesion molecule (N-CAM), two monoclonal antibodies, MAb735 and IgMNOV, were employed. Both antibodies have previously been shown to bind the extremely low immunogenic capsular polysaccharide of group B meningococci, which also consists of alpha(2-8) polysialic acid, but not to other, even closely related forms of polysialic acid. Despite the identical polysaccharide specificity of these two MAb, we observed marked differences of the staining pattern in tissue sections. Effect of the Alkaline Cations on the Stability of the Model Polynucleotide Poly(dG-dC)·Poly(dG-dC)

When the model polynucleotide poly(dG-dC)∙poly(dG-dC) [polyGC] is titrated with a strong acid (HCl) in unbuffered aqueous solutions containing the chlorides of the alkali metals in the concentration range 0.010 M-0.600 M, two transitions in the absorbance vs. pH plots are evidenced, characterized by the constants pK(a(₁)) and pK(a(₂)). How food webs are structured has major implications for their stability and dynamics. While poorly studied to date, arctic food webs are commonly assumed to be simple in structure, with few links per species. If this is the case, then different parts of the web may be weakly connected to each other, with populations and species united by only a low number of links.
