Two Democracies Work Better Together. French and Italian decision-making processes for the Turin-Lyon railway project.
2013
The Pan-European Corridor V railway line connects Lisbon and Kiev and touches many European countries. The paper present focuses on the Turin-Lyon section where French and Italian authorities jointly work on this huge infrastructure project while applying different approaches. While there are provisions for a public debates on such issues in France, there is no similar institutional framework in Italy. Hence, the analysis allows to compare the dynamics of the public debate in two democratic systems with different public decision-making systems and political cultures. While the French case evidences that public institutions can activate participation by providing “invited spaces” for collect…

2020
A necropolis at Baudemont (Saône-et-Loire) that was partially excavated in 1894 has revealed approximately fifteen graves datable to the end of the 4th and 5th centuries ad. Others seem to have been emptied during the first half of the 19th century. The discovery of a negative of the objects collected in 1894 indicates the pieces originating in the danubian area, which probably reflects the presence of a group of eastern Germans among those buried in the necropolis. These discoveries offer new perspectives on the Gallic context during the 5th century.
An overview of the Ephydridae (Diptera) of Saudi Arabia
2019
Despite the species richness of Ephydridae world-wide (2000 species) and its prominent environmental roles as a minor pest and as a food for wildlife, only 13 species have been recorded from Saudi Arabia. Between 2012 and 2016, a biodiversity study of Diptera was conducted at Jazan, Asir, and Najran in south-western Saudi Arabia, at 22 sites, was performed mainly using Malaise traps and sweep nets. In this study, 43 known species of Ephydridae were identified, 37 of them for the first time from southwestern Saudi Arabia and 16 from Arabian Peninsula. This brings the total number of Ephydridae species in Saudi Arabia to 49 (including previous records). There were a further four species, whic…
LYON PART DIEU, HUB METROPOLITANO CONTEMPORANEO
2014
Lyon Part Dieu, contemporary metropolitan hub. By François Decoster, Djamel Klouche and Caroline Poulin. This article introduces a series of concepts developed by the AUC in its research on the theme of mobility, transportation, and stations in contemporary cities. The “inexorable station” in fact debates the need, for contemporary stations and more in general transportation venues, to evolve as projects for open spaces, to be porous with respect to the city while establishing with it an organic relationship. Stations are not just specialized venues dedicated to transportation, but more than ever they are becoming “initiators”, essential levers for urban development and regeneration in toda…
