Investigation of LaBr3(Ce) detectors at the RITU focal plane
2015
The aims of this master thesis were to determine the absolute detection efficiency of the LaBr3(Ce) detectors installed at the RITU focal plane, to study the effect of planar Ge-detector on the LaBr3(Ce) efficiency and to investigate the possibility of half-life measurements with the detectors in a coincidence setup having distributed recoil ions produced by the RITU separator. Time spectra were collected by moving a point radioactive source from one edge of the implantation detector to the other to imitate the ion distribution from the RITU separator. Simulations have been exploited to explore the time spectra obtained from various ion distribution shapes and for different half-lives. A po…
A time-of-flight correction procedure for fast-timing data of recoils with varying implantation positions at a spectrometer focal plane
2019
Abstract Fast-timing measurements at the focal plane of a separator can suffer from poor timing resolution. This is due to the variations in time-of-flight (ToF) for photons travelling to a given detector, which arise from the changes in the implantation positions of the recoil nuclei emitting the γ rays of interest. In order to minimise these effects on timing measurements, a procedure is presented that improves fast-timing data by performing ToF corrections on an event-by-event basis. This method was used to correct data collected with an array of eight LaBr 3 detectors, which detected γ rays from spatially distributed 138Gd recoil-implants at the focal plane of the Recoil-Ion-Transport-U…
Detector characterization and first coincidence tests of a Compton telescope based on LaBr3 crystals and SiPMs
2011
International audience; A Compton telescope for dose monitoring in hadron therapy consisting of several layers of continuous LaBr3 crystals coupled to silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) arrays is under development within the ENVISION project. In order to test the possibility of employing such detectors for the telescope, a detector head consisting of a continuous 16 mm×18 mm×5 mm LaBr3 crystal coupled to a SiPM array has been assembled and characterized, employing the SPIROC1 ASIC as readout electronics. The best energy resolution obtained at 511 keV is 6.5% FWHM and the timing resolution is 3.1 ns FWHM. A position determination method for continuous crystals is being tested, with promising res…
Conceptual design of the AGATA 1$\pi$ array at GANIL
2017
The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) has been installed at the GANIL facility, Caen-France. This setup exploits the stable and radioactive heavy-ions beams delivered by the cyclotron accelerator complex of GANIL. Additionally, it benefits from a large palette of ancillary detectors and spectrometers to address in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy of exotic nuclei. The set-up has been designed to couple AGATA with a magnetic spectrometer, charged-particle and neutron detectors, scintillators for the detection of high-energy γ rays and other devices such as a plunger to measure nuclear lifetimes. In this paper, the design and the mechanical characteristics of the set-up are described. Based on sim…
