Changes of oral microcirculation in chemotherapy patients: A possible correlation with mucositis?

The aim of this investigation is to appraise labial oral microcirculation in chemotherapy patients to clarify the effects of cytotoxic agents on oral microvessels. Twenty-five patients with diagnosis of head and neck tumors were recruited in the study. All the patients were submitted to chemotherapy. Labial oral microcirculation was evaluated on labial mucosa using oral videocapillaroscopy. The statistical significance was checked with the Mann–Whitney U-test (P < 0.05). Geographic stomatitis is an uncommon inflammatory condition of unknown etiology. It is characterized by reddish areas surrounded by white borders affecting any location in the oral cavity and presenting a migratory and cyclic pattern. AIM: To demonstrate effectiveness of trans-labial ultrasound (TL-US) in the evaluation of female urethral diverticula (UD). METHODS: In the study period, 20 UD were diagnosed and treated. All data on demographic characteristics, presenting symptoms, physical examination findings, diagnostic and operative procedures, were considered. Patients were referred to TL-US for diverticular evaluation, using a 2D 7.5-MHz endfire probe. For each UD, size, complexity, echogenicity content, and presence of diverticular neck were considered.
