Optimized design of wide-area PSS for damping of inter-area oscillations
2015
In this paper a genetic algorithm based wide area power system stabilizer (PSS) in a multi machine power system for damping of low frequency inter-area oscillations has been presented. The wide area PSS is composed of two stages, the input of one stage is a local signal and the input of other is a global signal. Geometric measure of controllability and observability is used to select the most effective stabilizing signals and location of controller. Tie line active power flow deviation is found to be the most effective input signal. Time domain based objective function is minimized, in which the deviation in the oscillatory rotor speed of generator is involved so that the stability performa…
A boundary controllability approach in optimal shape design problems
2005
We indicate a formulation of optimal shape design problems as boundary control problems, based on some approximate controllability-type results. Numerical examples and a comparison with the standard method are included.
Controllability-type properties for elliptic systems and applications
1991
We consider approximate and exact controllability results for elliptic problems. These results enable one to formulate optimal shape design problems in a fixed domain with certain boundary conditions.
Design and Characterization of a Miniature Hydraulic Power Supply for High-Bandwidth Control of Soft Robotics
2020
Soft robotics holds enormous promise for a wide class of applications. However, system controllability, bandwidth, portability, and energy efficiency of soft robot power supplies are often inadequate. Soft robotics desperately needs improved solutions to drive soft actuators either pneumatically or hydraulically. This research paper offers a contribution to bridge this gap. It deals with small-scale power supplies for hydraulically-driven soft robots based on fluidic elastomer actuators in the power range 5-400 W. A design procedure for such power supplies is developed with an emphasis on high-bandwidth control. The performance requirements are established based on a literature survey, and …
A comparative study of partitioning methods for crowd simulations
2010
The simulation of large crowds of autonomous agents with realistic behavior is still a challenge for several computer research communities. In order to handle large crowds, some scalable architectures have been proposed. Nevertheless, the effective use of distributed systems requires the use of partitioning methods that can properly distribute the workload generated by agents among the existing distributed resources. In this paper, we analyze the use of irregular shape regions (convex hulls) for solving the partitioning problem. We have compared a partitioning method based on convex hulls with two techniques that use rectangular regions. The performance evaluation results show that the conv…
Bridging vs. chelating coordination modes of vinylsilanes in CuI π-Complexes: Structure and stability
2014
Two new copper(I) olefin complexes, [Cu6Cl6(MTrVS)2] (1) and [Cu2Cl2(DMVSP)2] (2), of tridentate bridging methyltrivinylsilane (MTrVS) and bidentate chelating 2-[dimethyl(vinyl)silyl]pyridine (DMVSP) have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. It has been shown that using the alkenylsilanes with required electronic properties, molecular symmetry and conformational flexibility, it is possible to control the formation of optimal copper(I) halide oligomers. The obtained results, together with relevant literature data, also illustrate how the coordination mode of vinylsilanes is related to Cu–(C=C) bond strengthening and, conse…
Cell-List based Molecular Dynamics on Many-Core Processors: A Case Study on Sunway TaihuLight Supercomputer
2020
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are playing an increasingly important role in several research areas. The most frequently used potentials in MD simulations are pair-wise potentials. Due to the memory wall, computing pair-wise potentials on many-core processors are usually memory bounded. In this paper, we take the SW26010 processor as an exemplary platform to explore the possibility to break the memory bottleneck by improving data reusage via cell-list-based methods. We use cell-lists instead of neighbor-lists in the potential computation, and apply a number of novel optimization methods. Theses methods include: an adaptive replica arrangement strategy, a parameter profile data structur…
Analyzing Large-Scale Crowd Simulations for Building Evacuation
2010
Animated virtual crowds have been used last years for analyzing human factors in scenarios where masses of people gather. A typical example is building evacuation in case of fire. Scalability still remains as an open issue for these multiagent systems applications. In this paper, we use a scalable architecture to simulate a large-scale version of a virtual crowd in a building evacuation. From the social point of view, the results provided by the large-scale version of the crowd add new and crucial information about the agents behavior, emphasizing the need for a small amount of trained leaders in order to save lives. From the system point of view, the results show that the trend of avatars …
Research on children's lexical availability: applications for SFL teaching
2022
Bioaccessibility of bioactive compounds after non-thermal processing of an exotic fruit juice blend sweetened with Stevia rebaudiana
2017
Abstract A comparative study of the bioaccessibility of bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity in a fruit juice-Stevia rebaudiana mixture processed by pulsed electric fields (PEF), high voltage electrical discharges (HVED) and ultrasound (USN) technology at two equivalent energy inputs (32–256 kJ/kg) was made using an in vitro model. Ascorbic acid was not detected following intestinal digestion, while HVED, PEF and USN treatments increased total carotenoid bioaccessibility. HVED at an energy input of 32 kJ/kg improved bioaccessibility of phenolic compounds (34.2%), anthocyanins (31.0%) and antioxidant capacity (35.8%, 29.1%, 31.9%, for TEAC, ORAC and DPPH assay, respectively) compared…
