Osteology and relationships ofEolacerta robusta, a lizard from the Middle Eocene of Germany (Reptilia, Squamata)

The osteology of the Eocene lizard Eolacerta robusta from Messel and Geiseltal is redescribed. Contrary to former opinions, Eolacerta does not possess body osteoderms, the pubis is typically lizard-like, the astragalus and calcaneum are fused, and the first cervical rib is distinctly curved posterolaterally. The suggestion that Eolacerta belongs to the modern family Lacertidae cannot be corroborated due to its many plesiomorphies and character incongruences, a view which is also supported by phylogenetic analysis. At present, Eolacerta cannot be assigned to any modern lizard family and is classified as Scleroglossa incertae sedis.

Skull osteology ofParvilacerta parva, a small-sized lacertid lizard from Asia Minor

The skull of the poorly known Asia Minor lacertid lizard Parvilacerta parva is described. In comparison to other palaearctic lacertids, Parvilacerta parva displays several peculiar traits such as a large braincase, a short parietal table, closed post-temporal openings, reduced ossification, or a large lacrimal. Many features are related to the small size of Parvilacerta parva and are of apparently heterochronic nature, as they can also be found in certain ontogenetic stages of other lacertid species. Abstract Mammals and birds are capable of navigating to a goal using learned map-like representations of space (i.e. place learning), but research assessing this navigational strategy in reptiles has produced inconclusive results, in part due to the use of procedures that do not take account of the peculiarities of reptilian behavior and physiology. Relationships between helminth communities and host traits inPodarcis bocageiandPodarcis carbonellifrom NW Portugal

A parasitological survey was carried out to determine the relationships between helminth fauna and some biological traits of two host species of lacertid lizards. Size, sex, diet, and season of collection, as well as infracommunities and component communities of Podarcis bocagei and P. carbonelli from Douro litoral (northwest Portugal), have been analysed. In both host species, we found low values of parasite infection parameters and diversity. These findings were in accordance with their feeding habits, eating only animal prey and no plant matter. Intestinal Helminth Parasites of Wall Lizards, Podarcis vaucheri Complex (Sauria: Lacertidae) from Algeria

Abstract A parasitological survey was carried out to determine the relationships between the helminth fauna and biological traits of the hosts in three Algerian populations of Podarcis lizards belonging to two different evolutionary lineages. Size, sex, and locality of collection, as well as the infracommunities and component communities, were analyzed. Sex and population variation in ultraviolet reflectance of colour patches in Gallotia galloti (Fam. Lacertidae) from Tenerife (Canary Islands)

Sex and population differences in the ultraviolet (UV) reflectance patterns of two phenotypically divergent lacertids from Tenerife, Gallotia galloti eisentrauti and G. g. galloti, are described. Adults in both populations have rows of lateral and ventro-lateral blue patches on either side of the trunk that show a single peak of reflectance in the near UV. The lateral patches of males are more intensely reflective than those of females, but females have more chromatic and UV-shifted lateral patches than males.
