A discrimination technique for extensive air showers based on multiscale, lacunarity and neural network analysis

We present a new method for the identification of extensive air showers initiated by different primaries. The method uses the multiscale concept and is based on the analysis of multifractal behaviour and lacunarity of secondary particle distributions together with a properly designed and trained artificial neural network. In the present work the method is discussed and applied to a set of fully simulated vertical showers, in the experimental framework of ARGO-YBJ, to obtain hadron to gamma primary separation. The rational self-assembly of mono-lacunary Keggin clusters with 4d and 4f metal salts via a conventional method has yielded two novel polyoxometalate-based 4d-4f heterometallic compounds containing lacunary Keggin anions connected to ten metal atoms: {[Ag{Ag2(H2O)4}{Ln(H2O)6}2H ⊂ {SiW11Ln(H2O)4O39}2]·nH2O (Ln = Ce and n = 7 for 1, Ln = Pr and n = 3 for 2). To The Editor: Regarding the study by Turin et al1 performed to estimate the secular time trends in incidence using a population-based stroke registry in Japan, we discuss some issues of potential interest. First, have the authors classified stroke subtypes according TOAST classification or Oxfordshire classification? PD recognition by means of statistical and fractal parameters and a neural network

A novel partial discharge (PD) defect identification method is described. Starting with PD data on different families of specimens, a suitable set of parameters are determined and then used as input variables to a neural network for the purpose of identifying the defects within the insulation. In this procedure the statistical Weibull analysis is performed on PD pulse amplitude histograms to obtain the scale parameter /spl alpha/ and the shape parameter /spl beta/. Il saggio intende presentare l’intervento, dei primi del sec. XX, nel palazzo-villa di Haghìa Triàda, nell’isola di Creta, per la conservazione del suo megaron. La sala possiede forma quasi quadrata, con sedili, ricoperti di lastre di gesso alabastrino, disposti nei tre lati; di fronte ad essa è una corte che la separa dall’esterno. La sala doveva avere una copertura sostenuta da pilastri di legno, che portavano le travi e i solai degli ambienti sovrastanti. Gli alloggiamenti, dove un tempo erano inseriti i pilastri di legno, risultavano perimetrati dalle lastre di gesso che ricoprivano le pareti della sala.
