Objective To identify genetic and nongenetic risk factors that contribute to the severity of the bladder exstrophy-epispadias complex (BEEC). Study design Patients with BEEC from North America (n = 167) and Europe (n = 274) were included. The following data were collected: associated anomalies, parental age at conception, mode of conception, periconceptional folic acid supplementation, maternal risk factors during pregnancy, and environmental risk factors. In this study, we investigated the seasonal life cycle and infection ecology of P. ovata in both swim bladder and body cavity in the European minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus) in Finland. The larval P. ovata infected the swim bladder of minnows mainly in August. Transrectal ultrasonography was performed in 121 patients with the chronic prostatitis syndrome (CPS), and in 20 patients with urological pathology not involving the prostate gland. The ultrasonographic aspects of the seminal vesicles (SV) in normal subjects and in patients with the CPS are described. Background: The Bladder Cancer Index (BCI) is so far the only instrument applicable across all bladder cancer patients, independent of tumor infiltration or treatment applied. We developed a Spanish version of the BCI, and assessed its acceptability and metric properties. Methods: For the adaptation into Spanish we used the forward and back-translation method, expert panels, and cognitive debriefing patient interviews. For the assessment of metric properties we used data from 197 bladder cancer patients from a multi-center prospective study. The Spanish BCI and the SF-36 Health Survey were self-administered before and 12 months after treatment. Reliability was estimated by Cronbach’s alpha.…

Abstract Objective: To compare two new generation antimuscarinics at their recommended doses for treatment of overactive bladder syndrome (OAB). Methods: A prospective, double blind, double-dummy, two-arm, parallel-group, 12-week study was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of solifenacin 5 or 10mg and tolterodine extended release (ER) 4mg once daily in OAB patients. After 4 weeks of treatment patients had the option to request a dose increase but were dummied throughout as approved product labelling only allowed an increase for those on solifenacin. The statistical analysis of geographical mortality data has usually been approached via regression models that include appropriate covariates. These models assume stochastic independence of mortality counts for neighbouring sites, a questionable assumption that spatial automodels (Besag, 1974, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B 36, 192-236) make unnecessary. As no suitable radioligand exists for the detection of β3-adrenoceptors, we have explored the radioligand binding properties of a tritiated version of the selective β3-adrenoceptor antagonist L 748,337. Kinetic and equilibrium saturation and competition binding experiments were performed with [(3)H]-L 748,337 on membrane fractions of HEK and CHO cells stably transfected with human and rat β-adrenoceptor subtypes.
