The paper examines the semiotic articulation of naturality through a structural analysis of green make-up packaging. The relations this universe establishes with its opposite, that of “traditional” make-up, find manifestation in the way the three visual strategies implemented by make-up brands and identified through the analysis enhance continuity or discontinuity with respect to this figurative universe. Aim There has been a wide interest in the effect of biotic interactions on species' occurrences and abundances at large spatial scales, coupled with a vast development of the statistical methods to study them. Still, evidence for whether the effects of within-trophic-level biotic interactions (e.g. competition and heterospecific attraction) are discernible beyond local scales remains inconsistent. AbstractTo build a forecasting tool for the state of eutrophication in the Archipelago Sea, we fitted a Generalized Additive Mixed Model (GAMM) to marine environmental monitoring data, which were collected over the years 2011–2019 by an automated profiling buoy at the Seili ODAS-station. The resulting “Seili-index” can be used to predict the chlorophyll-α (chl-a) concentration in the seawater a number of days ahead by using the temperature forecast as a covariate. An array of test predictions with two separate models on the 2019 data set showed that the index is adept at predicting the amount of chl-a especially in the upper water layer. Monitoring a meat-free pledge with smartphones:An experimental study

Pledges are a popular strategy to encourage meat reduction, though experimental studies of their efficacy are lacking. Three-hundred and twenty-five participants from three different countries (UK, Germany, Australia) were randomly assigned to pledge 28 days meat-free or not, and their behavior was tracked via smartphones. Participants answered daily surveys regarding their eating behavior, meat cravings, and shared photos of their meals. Baseline data was collected prior to the pledge, after the 28 days, and one-month post-intervention. Abstract Articular cartilage in synovial joints is a hyaline cartilage highly hydrated with a rigorous order of cells and fibers and a specific content of proteoglycans and glycoproteins. It provides a low-friction surface, participates in the lubrication of the synovial joints, and distributes the forces to the underlying bone. It is an avascular and aneural tissue where small metabolites diffuse to and from cells. Abstract Osteochondral injuries of the metacarpal head require anatomical restoration to prevent limitations in range of motion and osteoarthritis. Osteochondral bone grafting is a viable option, especially in younger patients. Central injuries allow for different types of grafting, but when the injured area is on the lateral portion of the metacarpal head, the graft must include both a cortical and a cartilaginous portion.
