The role of linguistic and cognitive factors in emotion recognition difficulties in children with ASD, ADHD or DLD

2020

Abstract Background: Many children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or developmental language disorder (DLD) have difficulty recognizing and understanding emotions. However, the reasons for these difficulties are currently not well understood. Aims: To compare the emotion recognition skills of children with neurodevelopmental disorders as well as those children’s skills with the skills of their typically developing (TD) age peers. Also, to identify the role of underlying factors in predicting emotion recognition skills. Methods & Procedures: The 6–10‐year‐old children (n = 50) who participated in th…

Esteettömyys digitaalisissa ympäristöissä kielellisten erityisvaikeuksien näkökulmasta

2019

Digitalisoitumisen myötä monet arjessa tarvittavat tiedot ja palvelut ovat siirtyneet teknologiaympäristöihin, joiden käyttö vaatii digitaalista lukutaitoa. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin digitaalisten ympäristöjen esteettömyyttä sellaisten nuorten näkökulmasta, joilla on kielellisiä erityisvaikeuksia (SLI). Tutkimus pyrki osallistamaan näitä nuoria digitaalisten palvelujen suunnitteluun. Digitaalisiksi palveluiksi valittiin mielen hyvinvointia edistäviä sivustoja, sovelluksia ja pelejä, koska SLI-nuorilla on todettu muita useammin mielen hyvinvoinnin pulmia. Tutkimustehtävänä oli selvittää, miten digitaalisten ympäristöjen esteettömyys ilmenee tutkimukseen osallistuneiden SLI-nuorten puheissa…

Co utrudnia opis logopedycznych zjawisk? Od słuchoniemoty, afazji wrodzonej i alalii do specyficznego zaburzenia językowego (SLI)

2016

This article, dedicated to Professor Stanisław Gajda because of his anniversary, raises theoretical issues of accuracy and explicitness of terms used in science which are familiar to him. Logopaedics, by virtue of its interdisciplinary character and exposure to borderline of numerous and often very distant from each other sciences such as anatomy, linguistics or physics, significantly uses appropriate for these sciences tools of descriptions (freąuently doubling notions) and thus, it represents a very good example of discipline in which unnecessary overgrowth of terminology makes it difficult to track research results and ąuality analysis of phenomena. Specific Language Impairment (SLI) is …
