This chapter explores how experientially based pedagogical activities that involve participation in real life service encounters provide occasions for developing L2 interactional competence. The data comprises novice L2 students’ self-recorded interactions in service settings and videorecordings of classroom planning activities and de-briefing discussions, where the students reflect on their experiences. The analysis traces what kinds of occasions for learning arise as the students move between the classroom and the real-world service settings. Dans ce travail, on étudie une des œuvres pionnières de référence en toxicologie du XIXe siècle : Traité des poisons, publiée par Mathieu Orfila entre 1814 et1815 à Paris, traduite en espagnol par le Dr. Mariano de Larra y Langelot en 1819, et éditée à Madrid. Larra se vante, dans l'introduction, que sa traduction a été révisée par Orfila lui-même, détail qui n’apparaît pas dans les traductions en allemand, anglais ou italien. Nous présenterons les événements historiques qui ont accompagné cette première traduction, ainsi que les raisons qui ont conduit Mariano de Larra, père du célèbre écrivain romantique Mariano José de Larra, à traduire ce travail après avoir été exilé en France pendant …

Characteristics of the translation product are often used in translation process research as predictors for cognitive load, and by extension translation difficulty. In the last decade, user-activity information such as eye-tracking data has been increasingly employed as an experimental tool for that purpose. In this paper, we take a similar approach. This paper explores ideological elements regarding gender in phraseological units with the word mujer(‘woman’) in the different editions of the dictionarypublished by Real Academia Española during the 18th and the 19th centuries. First, the ideological content in the phraseological units themselves is analyzed. Second, phenomena related to subjectivity in the definitions are analyzed: this evidences subjectivity not only in the different phraseological units presented in the dictionary, but also in the discourse of the academics.
