Photoluminescent and Slow Magnetic Relaxation Studies on Lanthanide(III)-2,5-pyrazinedicarboxylate Frameworks

2017

In the series described in this work, the hydrothermal synthesis led to oxidation of the 5-methyl-pyrazinecarboxylate anion to the 2,5-pyrazinedicarboxylate dianion (2,5-pzdc) allowing the preparation of three-dimensional (3D) lanthanide(III) organic frameworks of formula {[Ln2(2,5-pzdc)3(H2O)4]·6H2O}n [Ln = Ce (1), Pr (2), Nd (3), and Eu (4)] and {[Er2(2,5-pzdc)3(H2O)4]·5H2O}n (5). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction on 1–5 reveals that they crystallize in the triclinic system, P1 space group with the series 1–4 being isostructural. The crystal structure of the five compounds are 3D with the lanthanide(III) ions linked through 2,5-pzdc2– dianions acting as two- and fourfold connectors, buildi…

Selective chromo-fluorogenic detection of DFP (a Sarin and Soman mimic) and DCNP (a Tabun mimic) with a unique probe based on a boron dipyrromethene …

2014

[EN] A novel colorimetric probe (P4) for the selective differential detection of DFP (a Sarin and Soman mimic) and DCNP (a Tabun mimic) was prepared. Probe P4 contains three reactive sites; i.e. (i) a nucleophilic phenol group able to undergo phosphorylation with nerve gases, (ii) a carbonyl group as a reactive site for cyanide; and (iii) a triisopropylsilyl (TIPS) protecting group that is known to react with fluoride. The reaction of P4 with DCNP in acetonitrile resulted in both the phosphorylation of the phenoxy group and the release of cyanide, which was able to react with the carbonyl group of P4 to produce a colour modulation from pink to orange. In contrast, phosphorylation of P4 with…

SOURCE RECOGNITION OF INHALED ATMOSPHERIC PARTICLES ACCORDING TO GEOCHEMICAL AND STATISTICAL EVALUATIONS OF TRACE ELEMENT SIGNATURES

2011

During 2001 the Mount Etna had a large eruption producing a large amount of pyroclastic products consisting of a mixture of glass, minerals and soluble salt materials (SAF) encrusting solid particles. Inhalation of the finest of these materials induced pulmonary diseases in people living in subjected areas and gave us the possibility to collect bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL) from people in care in Catania hospitals. Concentrations of several trace elements measured in these BAL fluids (BALF) evidence strong enrichments in several trace elements compared to reference values. Related enrichments factors, calculated with respect to composition of volcanic ejecta (EFASH), show similar values in …

Production, isolation and characterization of radiochemically pure 163Ho samples for the ECHo-project

2018

Abstract Several experiments on the study of the electron neutrino mass are based on high-statistics measurements of the energy spectrum following electron capture of the radionuclide 163Ho. They rely on the availability of large, radiochemically pure samples of 163Ho. Here, we describe the production, separation, characterization, and sample production within the Electron Capture in Holmium-163 (ECHo) project. 163Ho has been produced by thermal neutron activation of enriched, prepurified 162Er targets in the high flux reactor of the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, France, in irradiations lasting up to 54 days. Irradiated targets were chemically processed by means of extraction chromatogr…

Single-crystal X-ray structures of both compounds have been determined. The cationic part of the dinuclear compound 2 is a cocrystal of the two species [Fe-III(OAc)LNiII(H2O)(mu-OAc)](+) (2A) and [(FeLNiII)-L-I…

Gas cell studies of thorium using filament dispensers at IGISOL

2020

Abstract Filament-based dispensers of thorium have been investigated at the IGISOL facility, Jyvaskyla, for potential use as a thorium ion source for future collinear laser spectroscopy experiments. Several different filaments were manufactured in the Institute of Atomic and Subatomic Physics of TU Wien, with 232Th and 229Th prepared on tantalum substrates either by drying thorium nitrate solution or via molecular plating, while adding a layer of zirconium for oxide reduction. The filaments were characterized in a helium-filled gas cell by performing selective and efficient in-gas-cell resonance laser ionization and by analyzing the resulting ion beams by mass spectrometry. Additionally, th…

Heterobimetallic single-source precursors for MOCVD. Synthesis and characterization of volatile mixed ligand complexes of lanthanides, barium and mag…

1999

Several heterobimetallic complexes of general formula [(M 1 Q) m M 2 (dik) n ], where (M 1 Q) is Cu(salen) or Ni(salen) and M 2 (dik) n is a lanthanide tris(β-diketonate) or an alkali-earth element bis(β-diketonate) with more or less fluorinated diketonato(-) ligands, have been prepared and structurally characterized. Some of them were submitted to thermal and mass spectrometry analyses, and to isothermal vacuum sublimation tests, in view of their potential use as MOCVD single-source precursors for the deposition of heterobimetallic materials. The study stresses upon the influence of the nature of the diketone. of the M 2 cation, and of chemical modification of the salen ligand on the therm…

Lanthanum-pyBOX complexes as catalysts for the enantioselective conjugate addition of malonate esters to β,γ-unsaturated α-ketimino esters

2018

[EN] In this paper, we report the application of chiral complexes of La(III) with pyBOX ligands as Lewis acid catalysts in the conjugate addition of malonic esters to N-tosyl imines derived from ß,gamma-unsaturated alfa-keto esters to give the corresponding chiral alfa,ß-dehydroamino esters. pyBOX complexes with La(III), Yb(III), Sc(III), and In(III) triflates were assessed in this reaction but only La(III) showed good activity and enantioselectivity, while Yb(III) provided the expected product with low yield and stereoselectivity, and the Sc(III) and In(III) complexes were completely inactive. The complex of La(OTf)3 with the diphenyl-pyBOX ligand prepared in situ provided the best results…

Combined omics approaches reveal distinct responses between light and heavy rare earth elements in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

2022

International audience; The rapid development of green energy sources and new medical technologies contributes to the increased exploitation of rare earth elements (REEs). They can be subdivided into light (LREEs) and heavy (HREEs) REEs. Mining, industrial processing, and end-use practices of REEs has led to elevated environmental concentrations and raises concerns about their toxicity to organisms and their impact on ecosystems. REE toxicity has been reported, but its precise underlying molecular effects have not been well described. Here, transcriptomic and proteomic approaches were combined to decipher the molecular responses of the model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae to La (LREE) an…
