Highlights • Epigastric vessel injury is a well recognized complication during laparoscopic trocar placement. • Precautionary measures to prevent trocar induced injuries should be implemented to lower the incidence of this complication. • If this complication is encountered, tamponade by Foley catheter placement is an effective measure to provide hemostasis. • Hemorrhage control using a Foley catheter is feasible even in small children and toddlers.

Highlights • A multidisciplinary team is mandatory for the correct management of hemorrhagic GIST and its complications. • There is a well-known association between type 1 Neurofibromatosis and GIST. • Type 1 Neurofibromatosis-GIST and sporadic GIST have different behaviour. • In case of localised and resectable GIST surgical treatment is the mainstay. • Laparoscopic approach, if performed correctly, is safe and effective with better short-term outcomes then open surgery.

Abstract Inhalation anaesthesia has traditionally been the method of choice for abdominal surgery. While most surgical interventions in the lower abdomen can be performed under regional anaesthesia, a general anaesthetic technique is frequently chosen for upper abdominal procedures. This explains the almost routine use of nitrous oxide (N 2 O) for abdominal surgery. In addition to well-known contra-indications such as ileus and abdominal wall defects in infants, there is substantial scientific evidence against the application of N 2 O in abdominal surgery. N 2 O has an important role in the development of post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV).

Cystic adenomyosis spreading into subserosal-peduncolated myoma: How to explain it?

Abstract Introduction Cystic adenomyosis is a rare variant of adenomyosis characterized by well- circumscribed cavitated endometrial gland and stroma located within the myometrium. The cysts usually measure ≥ 1 cm in diameter, contain a “chocolate-colored” fluid and do not open into the overlaying endometrium. Case presentation We present a case of a peduncolated-subserosal cystic adenomyoma, namely cystic adenomyosis, correlated with pelvic MR imaging, laparoscopic surgery technique and histopathology findings. Five women and one man (average age 62.5 [20-64] years) with symptomatic intraabdominal cysts at different sites (liver: n = 3; spleen: n = 2; mesentery: n = 1) had them removed by laparoscopic surgery. Broad fenestration was performed with the hepatic and splenic cysts, while the mesenteric cyst was enucleated from the mesentery. There were no intra- or postoperative complications. Median duration of operation was 60 (45-125) min, postoperative hospital stay was 5 (3-6) days.
