Background: The round window membrane (RWM) acts like a barrier for topically applied substances into the middle ear preventing diffusion into the perilymphatic fluid compartment. Material and Method: In an animal model, modulation of the permeability of the RWM was attempted using Streptolysin-O (SLO) in various concentrations and sodium hyaluronate. Plates or membranes made of this extremely soft materials exhibits interesting properties for sound absorption. A novel signal processing method for the characterization of an acoustic metamaterial made of silica aerogel clamped plates is presented. Material and Methods: Flat dentin surfaces from 25 molars were bonded with several adhesive systems according to the manufacturers? instructions. Non-invasive acoustic airway monitoring was evaluated in an experimental study. Recording amplitude and travel time of acoustic pulse response, an area-distance function of the cross sectional dimensions of the endotracheal tube and the adjacent airway was calculated to obtain an acoustic pattern of the airway. Measurements on models and excised human cadaver lungs were performed to discover whether displacement or obstruction of the artificial airway can be detected in the acoustic equivalent. La adhesión debe ser duradera y conseguir siempre que sea posible una interfase cerrada con un sellado perfecto. Se analizan los cuatro aspectos principales que describen una correcta adhesión: Acondicionamiento del substrato, el desarrollo de nuevos adhesivos y técnicas, mecanismos de unión (capa híbrida y tags de resina), resina y su polimerización, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta la contracción de polimerización.

Orbito-palpebral reconstruction is a challenge in Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS). This study investigates orbital phenotypes in TCS using cephalometry and orbital shape analysis. Eighteen TCS and 52 control patients were included in this study, using the Dr Warehouse database. Orbital cephalometry was based on 20 landmarks, 10 planes, 16 angles, and 22 distances. Orbits were segmented. Background The objective of this study was to describe the oral health status of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) children in a US facility. Material and Methods Twenty CF children ages 6-18 were recruited from Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Pulmonary Clinic. Parents completed a health questionnaire. Clinical examinations checked dental caries using the dmft/DMFT index, dental hygiene using the Simplified Greene-Vermillion Index (DI-S), gingival inflammation using the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs, and enamel defects using the modified Developmental Defects of Enamel Index.
