A cross‐sectional, multi‐center study on treatment of facial acne scars with low‐energy double‐pass 1450‐nm diode laser

Acne scars are the ultimate outcome of acne vulgaris, a prevalent skin disorder affecting the pilo-sebaceous unit. Laser resurfacing has been demonstrated to be an efficient therapy option for acne scars. Hence, we adopted this concept and conducted a study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of low-energy double-pass 1450-nm diode laser on acne scars. This study was conducted on 48 patients with acne scars, treated at 4-week interval with low-energy double-pass 1450-nm diode laser. The efficacy of photodynamic therapy in rat tongue dysplasia

Background Photodynamic therapy (PDT) using 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) has previously shown promising results in cancerous cell destruction. The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of this treatment option on oral epithelial dysplasia in Wistar rats. Furthermore, microscopic effects of systemic versus topical administration of ALA before laser illumination was assessed. The effect of human proinsulin C-peptide on erythrocyte deformability in patients with Type I diabetes mellitus.

Aims/hypothesis. In recent years, evidence has arisen that proinsulin C-peptide exerts biological effects especially on microcirculation, e. g. C-peptide has been shown to increase skin microcirculation in patients with Type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus and to activate endothelial nitric oxide synthase. Argon laser suture lysis following glaucoma filtering surgery – A short introduction to the procedure

Abstract Background Trabeculectomy is the most commonly performed glaucoma filtering surgery. The success of the outcome of an operation to reduce the intraocular pressure (IOP) is dependent on postoperative wound modulation by antimetabolite therapy and by flow regulation of the filtering bleb, which can be achieved by argon laser suture lysis. Methods and case report Postoperative IOP controls, examination of bleb formation and bleb massage can lead to the decision to perform up to four argon laser suture lyses in order to reduce IOP and enhance aqueous humor flow and bleb formation. Cavitation previously has been observed in association with ultrasonic angioplasty and high- frequency rotational atherectomy. This study evaluates the production of cavitation accompanying the use of several catheter-based devices under development or in current use in the practice of interventional cardiology. Catheters were examined in an in vitro model, and cavitation was evaluated using standard ultrasound imaging equipment. Cavitation was detected with each of the devices that effects tissue ablation, but not tissue resection.
