Ultraviolet imaging of volcanic plumes: A new paradigm in volcanology

Ultraviolet imaging has been applied in volcanology over the last ten years or so. This provides considerably higher temporal and spatial resolution volcanic gas emission rate data than available previously, enabling the volcanology community to investigate a range of far faster plume degassing processes than achievable hitherto. To date, this has covered rapid oscillations in passive degassing through conduits and lava lakes, as well as puffing and explosions, facilitating exciting connections to be made for the first time between previously rather separate sub-disciplines of volcanology. Agronomical evaluation of Sicilian biotypes of Lavandula stoechas L. spp. stoechas and analysis of the essential oils

The aim of this study was to characterize wild lavender, which was collected in three different areas of Sicily (Italy),according to agronomic and chemical evaluation. The collection sites were located in Pantelleria island, Partinico (a warm sub-area of Lauretum) and Castelbuono (a middle sub-area of Lauretum). All the populations were identified as Lavandula stoechas L. ssp. stoechas. Essential oils were extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gas chromatography– flame ionization detector (GC–FID) and GC–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Käsittelen tutkimuksessani itse kehittämäni lavastettavan valokuvan mahdollisuuksia taidekasvatusmenetelmänä. Menetelmälleni ominaista on, että se hyödyntää siirto-objektia, eli trasitionaaliobjektia kuvan päähenkilönä, jonka kautta teemaan perehdytään. Menetelmälleni on erityistä se, että ryhmääni osallistuva kuvaaja pysyy koko ajan kameran takana ja saa päättää itse kuvaan kuuluvista symbolisista elementeistä. Expérimentations techniques à Lavau : mécanisation, relevés et prélèvements

Le site du Moutot à Lavau (Aube), fouillé sur 2 hectares par l’Inrap en 2014-2015, correspond à un complexe funéraire monumental occupé à plusieurs reprises, entre le Hallstatt A1 et la fin de l’Antiquité. Il se caractérise d’abord par sa stratigraphie, obligeant à un décapage délicat et au relevé de grandes longueurs de coupe. La conservation partielle de plusieurs élévations tumulaires a permis l’appréhension des pratiques et de l’architecture funéraires sur le temps long. De manière inattendue, la fouille a permis de documenter une exceptionnelle tombe princière du Ve siècle avant notre ère, dont l’étude a nécessité une adaptation technique et méthodologique constante.
