Abstract In the presence of albumin Merocyanine 540 (MC540) exhibits a very limited binding to the outer surface of the membrane of normal erythrocytes, whereas pronounced binding is observed to leukemia cells. To find out whether this difference is due to differences in the composition or structural organization of the cell membrane we analyzed effects of a number of covalent and non-covalent perturbations of the red cell membrane on the binding and fluorescence characteristics of membrane-bound MC540. Nanochannel-based biosensing devices have been proposed for selective detection of protein analyte molecules. However, the design and miniaturization of reusable channel-based biosensors is still a challenge in nanoscience and biotechnology. We present here a reusable nanofluidic biosensor based on reversible lectin-carbohydrate interactions. The nanochannels are fabricated in heavy ion tracked polymer membranes. [EN] The diffusion of two similar molecular weight proteins, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and bovine haemoglobin (BHb), through nanoporous charged membranes with a wide range of pore radii is studied at low ionic strength. The effects of the solution pH and the membrane pore diameter on the pore permeability allow quantifying the electrostatic interaction between the chargedpore and the protein. Because of the large screening Debye length, both surface and bulk diffusion occur simultaneously. By increasing the pore diameter, the permeability tends to the bulk self-diffusion coefficient for each protein. Thin polymeric and small-molecular-weight organic semiconductors are widely employed as hole transport layers (HTLs) in perovskite solar cells. To ensure ohmic contact with the electrodes, the use of doping or additional high work function (WF) interlayer is common. In some cases, however, intrinsic organic semiconductors can be used without any additive or buffer layers, although their thickness must be tuned to ensure selective and ohmic hole transport. In the crossing between cardus and decumanus we can easily sum up the settlement of Piacenza; upon this scheme we can overlap a complexity made up of the several historical layers leading to the modern urban shape. This complexity can be seen as a sequence of limits, beyond which the urban fabric totally changes: these are the Po line, the XIX century walls, the highway.
