The analysis of endurance, speed and explosive strength in young football players

2011

Introduction Endurance, speed and explosive strength are determinant factors of sporting performance for football players (Hoff & Helgerud, 2004). An evaluation of these abilities is fundamental in young subjects, who have still not completed their maturation, to plan an individualised and effective training program (Fernandez-Gonzalo et al., 2010). The aim of this study was to examine the level of variability in endurance, speed and explosive strength of lower limbs among young football players. Methods Sixteen male players with 5 years of experience playing football and participating in the “Giovanissimi Regionali” amateur championship (14.00 years old ± 7 months; 57.5 ± 6.66 kg weight, 1…

Finite element modelling of temperature distribution in the cutting zone in turning processes with differently coated tools

2005

Abstract The aim of this study is to check the applicability of various simulation models to obtain finite element solutions of cutting forces, specific cutting energy and adequate temperatures for a range of coated tool materials and defined cutting conditions. Commercial explicit finite element code Thirdwave AdvantEdge has been used in simulations of orthogonal cutting processes performed by means of uncoated carbide and coated tools. The latter were equipped with progressively increasing number of thin layers including TiC, TiN and Al 2 O 3 films deposited onto ISO P20 carbide substrates. Results showing the tool–chip interfacial friction influencing the temperature distribution fields,…

Sarraute's plays : poplyphony and enunciation

2014

The corpus is formed of six plays of Nathalie Sarraute; it hides a duplication of enunciation types in the characters’ dialogue. This duplication is latent due to personal pronouns and verb tenses’ neutralization. The transition from an enunciation layer to another is not marked at all or not traditionally marked. Therefore, deciphering will be more complicated to any reader, listener or spectator. These works of art are also highly polyphonic in terms of enunciation as in semantics, as several voices are intertwined and as the characters resort to authorities of point of view. Thus, readers, listeners and spectators should identify enunciation sources and “other” authorities of point of vi…

Investigation of amorphous oxide film-electrolyte junctions by AC techniques

1992

Current AC (alternating current) techniques are used often to characterize the energetics at a semiconducting solid phase/electrolyte interface. For thin layers having a strongly disordered or amorphous structure (such as oxide-passive layers anodically grown on valve metals), interpretative models currently used for crystalline semiconductors may produce misleading data. A new interpretation of the admittance data, based on recent models for amorphous semiconductors (a-Sc) Schottky barriers, is presented for passive films of Nb, W and Ti. The physical bases of the model are presented as well as its advantages and disadvantages. The new theory views the solid/electrolyte interface more sati…

Mechanical properties and microstructural study of homogeneous and heterogeneous laser welds in α, β,and α + β titanium alloys

2018

International audience; Heterogeneous welding has been investigated for three different couples of titanium alloys: α/α + β, α/β,andα + β/β. Plates of 100 × 60 mm and 1.6 or 1.8 mm thick were welded with a Yb:YAG laser. Tensile tests show that the resistance of the heterogeneous welded specimens was generally controlled by those of the weakest material except for the α + β/β where the ultimate tensile strength was approximately equal to the average value of both materials. In every case, the elongation of the welded sample was found to be smaller than that of the base metals. The rupture generally took place outside the weld metal and was found to be most of the time located in the alloy ha…

Transmembrane beta-barrel of staphylococcal alpha-toxin forms in sensitive but not in resistant cells.

1997

Staphylococcal α-toxin is a 293-residue, single-chain polypeptide that spontaneously assembles into a heptameric pore in target cell membranes. To identify the pore-forming domain, substitution mutants have been produced in which single cysteine residues were introduced throughout the toxin molecule. By attaching the environmentally sensitive dye acrylodan to the sulfhydryl groups, the environment of individual amino acid side chains could be probed. In liposomes, a single 23-amino acid sequence (residues 118–140) was found to move from a polar to a nonpolar environment, indicating that this sequence forms the walls of the pore. However, periodicity in side chain environmental polarity coul…

Relationship between the structure of amphiphilic copolymers and their ability to disturb lipid bilayers.

2005

Nonionic amphiphiles and particularly block copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide (Pluronics) cause pronounced chemosensitization of tumor cells that exhibit multiple resistance to antineoplastic drugs. This effect is due to inhibition of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) responsible for drug efflux. It was suggested that the inhibition of P-gp might be due to changes in its lipid surrounding. Indeed, high dependence of P-gp activity on the membrane microviscosity was demonstrated [Regev et al. (1999) Eur. J. Biochem. 259, 18-24], suggesting that the ability of Pluronics to affect the P-gp activity is mediated by their effect on the membrane structure. We have found recently that adsorption …

Study of the reactive dynamics of nanometric metallic multilayers using Molecular Dynamics: the Al−Ni system

2012

A molecular dynamics study of a layered Ni-Al-Ni system is developed using an embedded atom method potential. The specific geometry is designed to model a Ni-Al nanometric metallic multilayer. The system is initially thermalized at the fixed temperature of 600 K. We first observe the interdiffusion of Ni and Al at the interfaces, which is followed by the spontaneous phase formation of B2-NiAl in the Al layer. The solid-state reaction is associated with a rapid system's heating which further enhances the diffusion processes. NiAl phase is organized in small regions separated by grain boundaries. This study confirms the hypothesis of a layer-by-layer development of the new phase. For longer t…

Chemical Design and Magnetic Ordering in Thin Layers of 2D Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs)

2021

Through rational chemical design, and thanks to the hybrid nature of metal−organic frameworks (MOFs), it is possible to prepare molecule-based 2D magnetic materials stable at ambient conditions. Here, we illustrate the versatility of this approach by changing both the metallic nodes and the ligands in a family of layered MOFs that allows the tuning of their magnetic properties. Specifically, the reaction of benzimidazole-type ligands with different metal centers (MII = Fe, Co, Mn, Zn) in a solventfree synthesis produces a family of crystalline materials, denoted as MUV-1(M), which order antiferromagnetically with critical temperatures that depend on M. Furthermore, the incorporation o…

Optofluidic microconvection with magnetic nanoparticles: Novel interaction of thermal diffusion and magnetic field

2021

Abstract Light-matter interactions are exploited in many applications, whereas superparamagnetic nanoparticles allow to introduce magnetic field control in diverse fluid environments. We study the structure of laser-induced thermal lens in thin layers of ferromagnetic colloid and predict significant magnetoconvective motion around the beam spot. It was found that localized heating depletes/accumulates magnetic nanoparticles in the beam-spot by thermal diffusion and collective magnetic interactions of nanoparticles produce strong microconvective currents. This mode of mass transport can be controlled by magnetic field. We expect the novel magnetosolutal microconvective coupling, which we des…
