Added Value of Intangibles for Organizational Innovation

2012

The purpose of this paper is to present the theoretical basis for a measurement and improvement system that will help organizations create a more innovative climate. The role of intangible assets in contributing to organizational innovativeness is clarified within six hypotheses on the basis of a cross-disciplinary literature review combining studies from psychology, human resources management, communication, information technology, and marketing. These factors range from the individual level to interaction with the environment surrounding the organization, and involve (a) individual psychological flexibility, (b) institutional and interpersonal trust, (c) diverse human resources, (d) strat…

Flow injection spectrophotometric determination of lead using 1,5-diphenylthiocarbazone in aqueous micellar

2009

A simple flow injection colorimetric procedure for determining lead was established. It is based on the reaction of lead in sulfuric acid with 1,5-diphenylthiocarbazone and sodium dodecyl sulfate, resulting in an intense red-blue complex with a suitable absorption at 500 nm. A standard or sample solution was injected into the sulfuric acid stream (flow rate of 2.0 ml min(-1)), which was then merged with sodium dodecyl sulfate stream (flow rate of 2.0 ml min(-1)) and 1,5-diphenylthiocarbazone stream (flow rate of 1.5 ml min(-1)). Optimum conditions for determining lead were investigated by univariate method. Under the optimum conditions, a linear calibration graph was obtained over the range…

Organisational transition challenges in the Finnish vocational education – perspective of distributed pedagogical leadership

2012

The article examines organisational challenges in the Finnish vocational education and training (VET) to support students’ lifelong learning pathways. Investigation of organizational challenges is done through the students’ transitions either within one school level or from one school level to another or to working life. For supporting the students’ learning pathways, it is argued here that specific attention has to be paid to collaborative practices of the personnel in order to guarantee the transitional fluency. This kind of collaboration is here called distributed pedagogical leadership. For examining the shared practices in the frame of distributed pedagogical leadership, the article in…

PEDAGOGICAL LEADERSHIP ASPECTS OF LATVIAN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS’ LEADERS

2019

Leadership of vocational education institutions’ leaders is one of the leading resources in order to provide access, quality, competitiveness and sustainability of vocational education. The goal of the research is to analyse leadership of vocational education institutions’ leaders on the basis of the Charismatic, Emotional, Anticipatory, Professional, Participatory, Cultural, Formative and Administrative Dimensions (Gento & González, 2012) identified due to the analysis of scientific literature and normative documents in the context of the vocational education reform. The outcomes of the quantitative research testify that students assess the vocational education institution leaders’ lea…

Supplementary frequency regulation in non-synchronous AC system connected via MTDC

2019

Abstract In smart grid power system operation, frequency regulation is one of the most critical tasks towards power balance in the grid. This paper presents the schemes for improvement in operation of secondary loop of turbine-generator unit for frequency regulation in non-synchronous AC areas connected via multi-terminal direct current (MTDC) network. Two schemes have been discussed; (i) voltage droop based lead/lag compensator and (ii) DC power modulation at converter terminal depending upon frequency deviation from each AC area. In the first scheme, droop design based on lead/lag compensator using DC voltage deviation is introduced as supplementary signal at turbine-generator unit in eac…

Climate change and genetic structure of leading edge and rear end populations in a northwards shifting marine fish species, the corkwing wrasse (Symp…

2013

Published version of an article in the journal:PLoS ONE. Also available from the Public Library of Science: http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0067492 Open Access One mechanism by which marine organisms may respond to climate shifts is range shifts. The corkwing wrasse (Symphodus melops) is a temperate fish species, inhabiting the coasts of Europe, that show strong indications of current as well as historical (ice-age) range shifts towards the north. Nine neutral microsatellite DNA markers were screened to study genetic signatures and spatial population structure over the entire geographic and thermal gradient of the species from Portugal to Norway. A major genetic break (FST  = 0.159 a…

Automatic shape detection of ice crystals

2021

Abstract Clouds have a crucial impact on the energy balance of the Earth-Atmosphere system. They can cool the system by partly reflecting or scattering of the incoming solar radiation (albedo effect); moreover, thermal radiation as emitted from the Earth's surface can be absorbed and partly re-emitted by clouds leading to a warming of the atmosphere (greenhouse effect). The effectiveness of both effects crucially depends on the size and the shape of a cloud's particulate constituents, i.e. liquid water droplets or solid ice crystals. For studying cloud microphysics, in situ measurements on board of aircraft are commonly used. An important class of measurement techniques comprises optical ar…

An Analysis and Comparison of Expectations and Perceptions on Sustainable Tourism among Italian and German Tourists

2016

The paper investigates the relationship of Italian and German consumers with sustainable tourism through a quantitative online questionnaire. The study’s first aim is to understand the representation of sustainable tourism. It also analyzes if the issue of sustainability denotes an abstract or concrete value to consumers, the extent to which sustainability is considered an important factor in the process of purchasing and consumption of a tourism product, and then becomes a driver for consumers to choose from. The analysis of tourist flows and the literature of the field have shown that in Germany there is extensive experience on the topics of sustainability and sustainable tourism, while l…
