Pseudocomplements in sum-ordered partial semirings

We study a particular way of introducing pseudocomplementation in ordered semigroups with zero, and characterise the class of those pseudocomplemented semigroups, termed g-semigroups here, that admit a Glivenko type theorem (the pseudocomplements form a Boolean algebra). Some further results are obtained for g-semirings – those sum-ordered partially additive semirings whose multiplicative part is a g-semigroup. In particular, we introduce the notion of a partial Stone semiring and show that several well-known elementary characteristics of Stone algebras have analogues for such semirings.

Infinite hypergraphs with sources arise as the canonical solutions of certain systems of recursive equations written with operations on hypergraphs. There are basically two different sets of such operations known from the literature, HR and VR. VR is strictly more powerful than HR on simple hypergraphs. Necessary conditions are known ensuring that a VR-equational simple hypergraph is also HR-equational. We prove that two of them, namely having finite tree-width or not containing the infinite bipartite graph, are also sufficient. This shows that equational hypergraphs behave like context-free sets of finite hypergraphs.

In this paper we consider, in the framework of coherence, four different definitions of conjunction among conditional events. In each of these definitions the conjunction is still a conditional event. We first recall the different definitions of conjunction; then, given a coherent probability assessment (x, y) on a family of two conditional events \(\{A|H,B|K\}\), for each conjunction \((A|H) \wedge (B|K)\) we determine the (best) lower and upper bounds for the extension \(z=P[(A|H) \wedge (B|K)]\). Automatic bilevel ventilation (AutoBI) in obstructive sleep-disordered breathing (SDB): clinical features and compliance to treatment

CPAP is the first-choice treatment for obstructive SDB, but the criteria to prescribe AutoBI are undefined. Trials of AutoBI ventilation in patients under titration for obstructive SDB from January 2015 to January 2017 ((n=67 out of 265 titrations) were reviewed to assess: a) their clinical features, b) the reason to shift from CPAP to AutoBI, and c) long-term compliance to treatment. AutoBI was used in cases of intolerance to high therapeutic CPAP levels (n=23) or incomplete resolution of SDB on CPAP (n=45).
