Antoniego Zabłockiego relacja o pobycie Katarzyny II i Józefa II w Chersoniu i na Krymie w roku 1787
2022
From July 1784 to mid-1792, a Polish trade and diplomatic post operated in Kherson (until the spring of 1788), and then in Mirgorod, in the Black Sea territories of the Russian Empire. From mid-1784 until the end of 1791, Antoni Zabłocki, a former soldier of the Crown Army, the Bar Confederate, and an exile in Russia, was the head of the facility, and from the summer-autumn 1786, the consul. He did not have any diplomatic preparation, and his qualifications were limited to the knowledge of the Russian language and the realities of social and economic life in the tsarist state, as well as to close contacts with the surroundings of King Stanisław August. This secured him a job as a royal agen…
Overcoming managers’ myopic decisions in a waste collection company
2019
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to show how the changing interrelationships between fleet management, human resources and outsourcer capacity areas are likely to counterbalance managerial policies, thereby generating a performance decay. The use of system dynamics modelling in a waste collection company offered an effective contribution to support decision makers to overcoming myopic decisions. Design/methodology/approach Literature review and a case study analysis (including interviews with company actors and data gathering) offered the basis to build a system dynamics model. The model built was then used to run simulations sessions to assess alternative investments decisions. Findin…
A Real time locating system for local fleet management
2006
Abstract Local locating systems are necessary where a big number of units are handled. In this case, we propose a management system for parking spaces for vehicles that are distributed among eight different-sized lots on a 1.8 million square meter premises. In order to quickly locate each particular vehicle in this area, a new real time location system (RTLS) has been successfully installed. The vehicle location system Moby-R automatically monitors every vehicle movement and tracks its current parked position. All the vehicles are given a data carrier which is attached to the inside rear-view mirror with a special hanger, precisely locating the vehicle within approximately five meters

Understanding the Key Factors of Shared Mobility Services: Palermo as a Case Study
2020
The potential success of shared mobility services in the urban area strongly depends on careful tariff planning, adequate sizing of the fleet and efficient integrated public transport system, as well as on the application of policies in favor of sustainable modes of transport. The balance between earnings and expenses is not always an easy target for the companies in those cities where these services are not well-rooted in the citizens’ mobility habits. Often only large operators in the sector can continue to offer a service generating profit. However, several factors can determine the success or the failure of shared mobility services. The objective of this study is to identify, thanks to …
EV-planning: Electric vehicle itinerary planning
2014
International audience; In the latest few years, lot of efforts have been done to pave the way to sustainable mobility, in order to solve pollution problems and fuel shortage. The use of electric vehicles (EV) is considered as one of the best ecologic and economic solution. However, autonomy barriers and limitations slow the progress and the deployment of this technology. In this paper, we propose an advanced electric vehicles' fleet management architecture. This architecture considers the most important factors that can affect the traveling mode of electric vehicles, in order to offer different services to fleet management companies for an efficient monitoring and management of their fleet…
How do airlines preferences about engines influence the competition in the commercial aircraft industry: an empirical analysis
2011
This paper examines the competitive context in the commercial aircraft industry. In particular, the aim of the research here presented is to understand what are the main drivers influencing the choice of a specific engine manufacturer in an aircraft, and how such preferences influence the competition between Airbus and Boeing. In order to do that, we have collected data about the fleet composition of the top 25 airlines and we have located the main drivers influencing the engine configuration in: route specialization, business model and maintenance policy. Implications of such empirical findings in the competition among aircraft manufacturers are finally discussed.
Understanding short- and long-term implications of “myopic” fleet maintenance policies: a system dynamics application to a city bus company
2010
Financial losses recorded in city bus companies often force managers to implement restructuring strategies aimed at improving business results. However, such decisions may not produce the expected consequences for a number of reasons. Both the internal and external environment in which such companies operate can make the design and implementation of long-term sustainable policies quite difficult. In fact, the result may be that decision makers introduce "effective" policies in a company subsystem, while ignoring the medium- and long-term implications of such decisions in the performance of the whole company. With the aim to detect the main causes underlying "myopic" fleet maintenance polici…
Flexible strategic planning of transport systems
2012
Abstract This paper presents a decision support methodology for long-range planning of transport systems that exhibits strategic flexibility and stochastic system parameters. Unlike one-off strategic decisions, flexible decisions should be dynamically reformulated with time. The proposed methodology is based on the construction of a tree structure of multiple interlinked tactical planning problems, each associated with a scenario in the tree, where problems under scenarios at intermediate dates incorporate in their formulation the solution of the corresponding problems associated with past (future) connected scenarios. The resulting tree structure of interconnected planning decisions become…
