The Risk of Toxicities from Trastuzumab, Alone or in Combination, in an Elderly Breast Cancer Population
2013
Background: Breast cancer in the elderly is associated with high recurrence and death rates, due mostly to undertreatment. Human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 (HER2) overexpression is infrequent in older patients. Trastuzumab-based chemotherapy is often withheld from elderly patients because of its cardiotoxicity. Patients and Methods: Medical records of consecutive HER2-positive breast cancer patients aged ≥70 years old treated between 2005 and 2010 in the participating centers were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent multidimensional geriatric assessment (MGA). Results:<…
Association of MAPK signaling subtypes with prognostic benefit for bevacizumab in left-sided metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients treated wit…
2019
3584 Background: We investigated the role of the MAPK pathway by mRNA expression profiles in microarrays of the FIRE-3 trial as it was formerly associated with prognosis. Methods: 451 patients provided eligible mRNA material for subsequent analyses of the MAPK pathway (295 genes). Non-negative matrix factorized (NMF) clustering for normalized mRNA microarray data (Almac Inc, Xcel Array) was performed for 2 to 6 ranks against randomized controls. Linear models with adjustment for multiple testing showed differential gene expression between groups. Single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) was used to compare differentially enriched hallmarks of cancer gene sets. Kaplan Meier metho…
Congenital lower lip pits : Van der Woude syndrome
2018
The Van der Woude syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant development malformation characterized by a paramedian lip pits and /or sinuses or conical elevation of lower lip associated with cleft lip and or palate. These congenital lip pits usually appear clinically in the vermilion border of lip, with or without secretion. The critical region of VWS has been identified to be at Iq32 to 41 with high, but incomplete penetrance and variable expressivity. Therapeutic intervention is generally required for cosmetic reason or when recurrent inflammation is present. Dental surgeon should be aware of this syndrome, as it is associated with variety of other congenital malformation. van der woude syndro…
Oral, facial, digital, vertebral anomalies with psychomotor delay: a mild form of OFD type Gabrielli?
2002
A girl with oral, facial, and digital anomalies presented at birth with a large cleft palate filled by a nasopharyngeal mass and was found later to have several vertebral anomalies and mental retardation. A similar phenotype has been previously reported in a sporadic male patient [Gabrielli et al., 1994: Am J Med Genet 53:290-293], suggesting a new variant form of oral-facial-digital syndrome.
The evaluation of root fracture with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) : an epidemiological study
2018
Background The aim of this study was evaluation of the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) image of 50 patients at the ages of 8-15 suspecting root fracture and root fracture occurred, exposed to dental traumatic. In additionally, this study was showed effect of crown fracture on root fracture healing. Material and methods All of the individuals included in the study were obtained images with the cone-beam computed tomography range of 0,3 voxel and 8.9 seconds.(i-CAT®, Model 17-19, Imaging SciencesInternational, Hatfield, Pa USA).The information obtained from the history and CBCT images of patients were evaluated using chi-square test statistical method the mean and the distribution of the…
Orthodontic treatment of patient with maxillofacial fibrous dysplasia : a case report
2019
Fibrous dysplasia is a benign skeletal disorder in which the normal bone and marrow are replaced by fibrous tissue and haphazardly distributed woven bone. The aim of this case report is to discuss the orthodontic treatment of a 13-year-old patient with fibrous dysplasia in the left maxilla. The patient had rotated maxillary second premolars, moderate crowding in both maxillary and mandibular arches with low maxillary frenal attachment. Orthodontic treatment was done with full fixed appliance and extraction of maxillary and mandibular third molars. Maxillary frenectomy and free gingival graft in mandibular anterior region were performed by a periodontist. The oral and maxillofacial surgery t…
Anterior teeth root inclination prediction derived from digital models: A comparative study of plaster study casts and CBCT images
2018
Background To assess the accuracy of digital models generated using commercially available software to predict anterior teeth root inclination characteristics and compare the results to relevant data obtained from CBCT images. Material and Methods Following sample size calculation and after application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, pre-treatment maxillary and mandibular plaster models and the corresponding CBCT scans of 31 patients attending a private orthodontic clinic were selected. The subjects were 10 males and 21 females with age range 12 to 40 years. Plaster models were scanned using the high resolution mode of an Ortho Insight 3D scanner and CBCT scans were taken using a Kodak…
Death by Facial and Skull Injuries of a Motorcyclist Wearing a Full-Face Helmet: Case Report and Literature Review
2016
We describe a case of death by facial and skull fractures with brain injuries of a motorcyclist wearing a full-face helmet. A 40-year-old man driving a high-powered motorcycle crashed violently into the rear of a stopped car. The main results from the autopsy revealed the deformation of the left orbito-zygomatic and fronto-temporoparietal regions corresponding to bone fractures with laceration at the left temporal lobe. The CT scan of the helmet revealed the detachment of the energy-absorbing liner. Moreover an impact speed of 93 Km/h resulted from the analysis of accident dynamics. We analysed the literature regarding the effectiveness of full-face helmets in reducing the risk of fatality …
Maxillofacial reconstruction in a pediatric patient with Osteosarcoma
2011
Osteosarcoma is a bone tumor that consists of malignant cells that produce immature bone. Is a bone tumor that develops during periods of rapid growth in adolescents and young adults. It is the most common type of bone cancer in children and adolescents. The diagnosis and treatment of patients with osteosarcoma requires a multidisciplinary team approach. Resection of maxillary tumours remains a surgical challenge due to the possible aesthetic and functional secuelae. We present herein the case of a 15 year-old female with an osteoblastic osteosarcoma of the left maxilla. It was treated with eight cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by a total left maxillectomy. Resection was perfor…
