Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is frequently associated with aortic insufficiency (AI) due to cusp disease and/or aortic root dilatation. Based on functional classification and morphology, a systematic surgical approach was used for aortic valve repair (AVr).From 2004 to 2014, 152 consecutive patients (mean age 55 ± 7 years) with BAV underwent AVr with or without concomitant aortic root surgery. Cusp pathology was treated with central plication in 60 (39.5%) patients, free edge reinforcement in 45 (29.6%), triangular resection in 28 (18.4%) and pericardial patch in 19 (12.5%). This study was designed to evaluate left and right ventricular performance using Tei indices in patients with severe chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension undergoing pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE). Retroaortic left renal vein and inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm

The aim of this study was to report successful surgical management of an inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm associated with a retroaortic left renal vein. The patient, a 78-year-old man, presented with diffuse abdominal pain, fever, and constipation. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed soft tissue surrounding the aneurysm and a left renal vein behind the aorta. Intraoperative findings confirmed the CT images. The patient is alive and well 6 months postoperatively.

From May 1985 to December 1991 52 patients were operated upon for postischemic left ventricular aneurysm (LV-A). Between May 1985 and July 1989 25 patients (group I) with a mean age of 59 (46-72) years underwent conventional aneurysmectomy with direct closure of the left ventricle (LV) and a mean of 1.9 (0-3) additional bypass grafts (54% triple-vessel disease). The hospital mortality was 8% (2/25) and the late mortality during a median follow-up time of 34 months was 28% (7/25) with a 4-year survival of 66%. Bronchial artery embolization is a well accepted and widely used technique in the management of massive haemoptysis in cystic fibrosis (CF). It can be a complex procedure requiring a deep knowledge of the bronchial artery anatomy including the possible bronchial anastomoses. We report a case of complex vascular anatomy of the left bronchial artery with multiple anastomoses with the ipsilateral subclavian artery as cause of non-attempted embolization. © 2003 European Cystic Fibrosis Society. Non-invasive monitoring of pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) in postoperative cardiac surgery patients might be useful, particularly for management of pulmonary hypertension. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has emerged as a promising therapeutic alternative to conventional open aortic replacement but it requires suitable proximal and distal landing zones for stent-graft anchoring. Many aortic pathologies affect in the immediate proximity of the left subclavian artery (LSA) limiting the proximal landing zone site without proximal vessel coverage. This paper defines two new concepts: the concept of multivalued left-weighted mean contractions in the generalized sense of Nadler in a symmetric generalized metric space and the concept of multivalued right-weighted mean contractions in the generalized sense of Nadler in a symmetric generalized metric space, and demonstrates fixed-point theorems for them. For these, we demonstrated two fixed-point existence theorems and their corollaries, by using the properties of the regular-global-inf function and the properties of symmetric generalized metric spaces, respectively. The anterior and middle cerebral arteries of both hemispheres from 15 women with fibromyalgia and 15 healthy women were monitored using Transcranial Doppler (TCD) during a 5-minute eyes-closed resting period.
