2013
Air‑raid shelters: civil war heritage in Valencia city
2017
Memorial sites are an interesting part of the wide range of Spanish Civil War heritage. The city of Valencia preserves a large number of vestiges of that time, among them, more than three hundred air‑raid shelters. In this article we consider these bomb shelters, taking into account the new circumstances relating to this heritage, starting in 2017, when new legislative and management scenarios were set in motion. The approval of the Valencian Autonomous Community Law for Democratic Memory and Coexistence, a recent modification of the Valencian Cultural Heritage Act which expressly highlights civil war heritage, as well as unprecedented activity by the Valencia City Council regarding its pre…

Legislative reforms and market dynamics in the provision of urban water service by private contract operators in Spain
2022
Abstract This paper studies the dynamics of concentration in the Spanish market for the provision of urban water service by private contract operators in the 2000–2020 period. The market is highly concentrated. Concentration increased until 2007, at which point it started to decline when Law 30/2007 on Public Sector Contracts and Organic Law 8/2007 on Political Party Financing were passed; before rising again from 2016 onwards. This latter trend results from strategic behaviour by the two leading operators, acquiring smaller companies with a notable presence in some regional markets. Further legislative reforms aimed at safeguarding space for competition are thus proposed.
Tax Evasion: Part of the Underground Economy in Romania
2020
The economies of developed or emerging countries have a component not subject to the eyes of the authorities, the underground economy, the size of which is likely to produce many imbalances and inequities. The attempt to mitigate state revenues by exploiting legislative imperfections or by using ingenious methods to avoid the payment of taxes is called tax evasion. The weight of the underground economy in Romania’s GDP is significant, with the percentage ranging from 22.4% to 28.4%. The European Union average is 10 p.p. lower than the level at which Romania is located, at the opposite end being Austria, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The underground economy is predominantly dominated by bl…

The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of adopting a medium-term budgetary framework by Romania and the role that…
The challenges of Language: re-shaping legislative discourse(s) and text(s)
2015
Since the 1990s the discourse on the relationship between the EU and member states in the field of labour law has changed significantly and it has been increasingly supplemented by framework agreements between the EU and the actors involved in the labour law dialogue. From this point of view, the Green Paper on Modernising labour law invites member states, the social partners and other interested parties to participate in a consultation process and an open debate, in order to look at how labour law can help promote flexibility in conjunction with security, regardless of the type of employment contract. The aim of this paper is to explore how the labour law interactants re-shape their discou…
Animal liberation, American anti-terrorist culture and Denis Hennelly’sBold Native
2016
ABSTRACTSince its birth in the last quarter of the twentieth century, the animal liberation movement has attempted to expose the transnational, global character of speciecism and institutionalised forms of exploitation. Within the American panorama, however, the “war against terror” following 9/11 had such a profound effect on (radical) activism at a legal and legislative level that the movement found itself in the position of having to reassess their focus, leading to theoretical and aesthetic responses to anti-terrorist rhetoric. The aim of this article is (1) to examine the manner by which anti-terrorist rhetoric affected the movement and how the movement appropriated such rhetoric to re…
