Brain dynamics of recommendation-based social influence on preference change: A magnetoencephalography study.

2022

People change their preferences when exposed to others’ opinions. We examine the neural basis of how peer feedback influences an individual’s recommendation behavior. In addition, we investigate if the personality trait of ‘agreeableness’ modulates behavioral change and neural responses. In our experiment, participants with low and high agreeableness indicated their degree of recommendation of commercial brands, while subjected to peer group feedback. The associated neural responses were recorded with concurrent magnetoencephalography. After a delay, the participants were asked to reevaluate the brands. Recommendations changed consistently with conflicting feedback only when peer recommenda…

Sad, lonely and looking for love? : representations of singleness on Cosmopolitan.com

2016

A Bottleneck Model of Imaging Systems for Digital Angiocardiography

1988

Some ten years ago, the performance of real-time digital subtraction angiocardiography was demonstrated for the first time [1]. Subtraction became in the years after 1980 nearly synonymous with digital angiography [2–4]. This image enhancement technique was certainly very efficient in paving the way for the digital approach to imaging. Relatively simple processors and memory structures could perform subtraction methods with some degree of success. However, even in that early stage, it was clear to many of those involved in the technical developments and in early clinical evaluations that subtraction was only one of many features that would motivate the change from traditional film technique…

New hydrogel matrices containing an anti-inflammatory agent. Evaluation of in vitro release and photoprotective activity.

2002

In the present work. the preparation and characterization of hydrogels based on alpha,beta-polyaspartylhydrazide (PAHy) chemically crosslinked with ethyleneglycol diglycidylether (EGDGE) containing Tolmetin sodium salt, are reported. In particular, these samples have been prepared both as water swellable microparticles and as gels at two different crosslinking degrees. The incorporation of Tolmetin sodium salt in PAHy-EGDGE microparticles has been performed after the crosslinking reaction by a soaking procedure or during the formation of the network. The influence of drug loading procedure on Tolmetin release has been evaluated by performing in vitro release study in simulated gastrointesti…

The spectrum of allergic (cross-)sensitivity in clinical patch testing with 'para amino' compounds

2002

Background: Allergic contact sensitization to ‘para amino’ compounds is frequent and the spectrum of cross-reactivity between members of this chemical group is variable. Methods: A retrospective analysis of clinical patch test data obtained with a special test series in the centres of the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology (IVDK) between 1995 and 1999. Results: In the 638 patients tested with the above test panel positive reactions were observed most often to p-aminoazobenzene (16.2%), p-phenylenediamine (14.1%), p-toluylenediamine (10.0%), followed by 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (8.5%), Disperse Orange 3 (8.4%) and p-aminophenol (3.1%). Among the 544 patients tested with p-p…

Effects of polymorphisms in endothelial nitric oxide synthase and folate metabolizing genes on the concentration of serum nitrate, folate, and plasma…

2015

Abstract Objectives A number of studies have explored the effects of dietary nitrate on human health. Nitrate in the blood can be recycled to nitric oxide, which is an essential mediator involved in many important biochemical mechanisms. Nitric oxide is also formed in the body from l -arginine by nitric oxide synthase. The aim of this study was to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms in endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and genes involved in folate metabolism affect the concentration of serum nitrate, serum folate, and plasma total homocysteine in healthy individuals after folic acid supplementation. Methods In a randomized double-blind, crossover study, participants were given …

Cost Effectiveness of Peginterferon ??-2a Plus Ribavirin versus Interferon ??-2b Plus Ribavirin as Initial Therapy for Treatment-Naive Chronic Hepati…

2004

Introduction: In adults with previously untreated chronic hepatitis C (CHC), the combination of peginterferon α-2a plus ribavirin produces a higher rate of sustained virological response (SVR) than interferon α-2b plus ribavirin, but it is still unproven whether this increase is cost effective. The objective of this study was to determine if the gain in SVR with peginterferon α-2a plus ribavirin is worth the incremental cost. Methods: We constructed a Markov model of disease progression in which cohorts of patients received peginterferon α-2a plus ribavirin or interferon α-2b plus ribavirin for 48 weeks (hepatitis C virus [HCV] genotype 1 and non-1 patients with fibrosis) or 24 weeks (genot…

Optimizing the treatment of chronic hepatitis due to hepatitis C virus genotypes 2 and 3: a review

2009

Recently several randomized trials involving exclusively HCV 2 and 3 patients have explored the possibility of reducing the duration of therapy with PEG IFNs and ribavirin to 12–16 weeks. Among these, the largest studies (ACCELERATE, NORTH-C and NORDynamIC) have failed to demonstrate, by intention-to-treat analysis, that short treatment is non-inferior to the standard duration of 24 weeks originated by phase 3 trials. Even though obtaining univocal conclusions from these studies are difficult to obtain due to some critical differences (trial design, genotypes 2/3 ratio, rate of cirrhosis at baseline, ribavirin dose, assays to detect HCV-RNA etc), all have proved that a rapid virological res…

Clinical Trial Results of Peginterferons in Combination with Ribavirin

2003

Of the large number of patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV), only about one third have progressive liver disease, and will eventually develop cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. These are the patients for whom effective antiviral treatment is most needed. Therapy is currently recommended for patients with chronic hepatitis C who have abnormal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels, detectable hepatitis C virus ribonucleic acid (HCV RNA) in the blood, and significant necroinflammatory changes and/or fibrosis on liver biopsy. The current gold standard in terms of treatment efficacy is the combination of peginterferon (PEG-IFN) and ribavirin. The overall sustained viro…
