Visual Performance of a Multifocal Toric Soft Contact Lens

2012

PURPOSE To evaluate the visual performance of the Proclear multifocal toric contact lens (CL; CooperVision, US) for both presbyopia and astigmatism correction. METHODS In this crossover study design, 20 presbyopic subjects with astigmatism were fitted in a random order with either Proclear multifocal toric CL or Proclear toric single vision distance CL (DCL) combined with reading spectacles. After 1 month, high-contrast distance visual acuity, near high-contrast visual acuity, distance contrast sensitivity (CS) under photopic and mesopic conditions without and with glare, near CS, defocus curve, and stereopsis were measured. Subjects were then refitted with the alternative correction, and t…

Pseudoaccommodating intraocular lens implantation in patients with irregular nonreactive pupils.

2007

We report 3 patients implanted with the AcrySof ReSTOR pseudoaccommodating intraocular lens (IOL) who had irregular nonreactive pupils as a consequence of pupil stretching during phacoemulsification. Despite the pupils, the visual acuity at distance and near was not compromised. The outcome in these cases suggests that an irregular nonreactive pupil is not an exclusion criterion for pseudoaccommodating IOL implantation.

The combination of diffractive and refractive multifocal intraocular lenses to provide full visual function after cataract surgery.

2009

PURPOSE To investigate if implantation of a far dominant refractive multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) in one eye and a near dominant diffractive multifocal IOL in the fellow eye improves range of vision following cataract surgery. METHODS This was a prospective, nonrandomized, case-control study involving 20 patients (40 eyes) scheduled for cataract surgery. Inclusion criteria were bilateral cataracts, minimum age 50 years, availability for follow-up visits, and informed consent. All patients received a far dominant refractive multifocal IOL (ReZoom, Abbott Medical Optics) in their dominant eye and a near dominant diffractive multifocal IOL (Tecnis ZM900, AMO) in their nondominant eye. Preo…

Late postoperative opacification of MemoryLens hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lenses Case series and review

2003

Abstract Purpose: To report clinical and spectrographic analyses of 2 explanted hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lenses (IOLs). Setting: John A. Moran Eye Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and Johannes Gutenberg-University, Department of Ophthalmology, Mainz, Germany. Methods: We report 6 cases of opacification of MemoryLens ® IOLs (Ciba Vision) that occurred approximately 2 years after implantation. The anterior and posterior surfaces of the IOLs had a white, frosted appearance, and the IOLs' interior looked brown, similar to the appearance of a brunescent cataract. Two of the IOLs were explanted because of a significant decrease in visual acuity. The IOLs were sent for further clinicopath…

Refractive Lens Exchange with Foldable Toric Intraocular Lens

2009

To assess visual and refractive outcomes, and rotational stability after refractive lens exchange (RLE) with toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantation to correct ametropia and preexisting astigmatism.Prospective, nonrandomized, observational case series (self-controlled).This prospective, nonrandomized, and self-controlled study included 32 eyes of 19 consecutive patients with more than 1.00 diopter (D) of preexisting corneal astigmatism having RLE with AcrySof Toric IOL implantation (Alcon Laboratories Inc, Fort Worth, Texas, USA). Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), refractive sphere, and keratometric and refractive cylinder were recorded preoperatively …

Stereoacuity After Refractive Lens Exchange With AcrySof ReSTOR Intraocular Lens Implantation

2009

Purpose: To evaluate stereoacuity before and after refractive lens exchange (RLE) with AcrySof ReSTOR intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Methods: Stereoacuity was measured using the Titmus stereotest at 40 cm under photopic conditions (85 cd/m 2 ) before and after RLE with bilateral AcrySof ReSTOR Natural (SN60D3 model) implantation in 30 hyperopic eyes of presbyopes with low astigmatism (⩽1.00 diopter [D]). Stereoacuity measurements after implantation were compared with those found before surgery. Results: Stereoacuity was unchanged after RLE with pseudoaccommodative IOL implantation. In this population of non-cataractous hyperopes with excellent preoperative stereoacuity (46.42±1.36 se…

2019

Corresponding author at: Department of Ophthalmology, 14, rue Paul-Gaffarel, 21000 Dijon, France. This work is issued from the oral presentation during the 123rd congress of the French Ophthalmological Society.; International audience; PURPOSE: To describe the visual results and postoperative complications of congenital cataract surgeries performed between 2005 and 2016. METHODS: A retrospective consecutive case series of congenital cataract surgeries was carried out at the Dijon University Hospital in France. Intraocular lens implantation was primary or secondary according to age. Pre- and post-operative assessment was performed through ophthalmologic consultations with orthoptic measureme…

Factors influencing myopic shift in children after intraocular lens implantation.

2019

Introduction:Intraocular lenses have always been a controversial topic in pediatric cataract surgery. In the early 1990s in the post-Soviet states of Eastern Europe, intraocular lenses promised an easier full-time correction and amblyopia treatment. Since 1991, ophthalmologists in Latvia have been implanting intraocular lenses in infants. Amount of the postoperative myopic shift and its influencing factors, analyzed in this article, are important indicators of congenital cataract treatment.Materials and methods:A retrospective chart review off 85 children (137 eyes) who underwent foldable posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation at the Clinical University Hospital in Riga, Latvia, fr…

Effect of Multizone Refractive Multifocal Contact Lenses on Standard Automated Perimetry

2012

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the creation of 2 foci (distance and near) provided by multizone refractive multifocal contact lenses (CLs) for presbyopia correction affects the measurements on Humphreys 24-2 Swedish interactive threshold algorithm (SITA) standard automated perimetry (SAP). METHODS In this crossover study, 30 subjects were fitted in random order with either a multifocal CL or a monofocal CL. After 1 month, a Humphrey 24-2 SITA standard strategy was performed. The visual field global indices (the mean deviation [MD] and pattern standard deviation [PSD]), reliability indices, test duration, and number of depressed points deviating at P<5%, P<2%, P<1%, an…

Visual function after implantation of an aspheric bifocal intraocular lens.

2009

Purpose To evaluate distance, intermediate, and near vision after bifocal aspheric AcrySof ReSTOR SN6AD1 intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Setting Fernandez-Vega Ophthalmological Institute, Oviedo, Spain. Methods Binocular distance best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) (4.0 m), best distance-corrected near (40.0 cm) and intermediate (70.0, 60.0, 50.0 cm) acuities, and contrast sensitivity under photopic (85.0 candelas [cd]/m 2 ) and mesopic (3.0 cd/m 2 ) conditions with and without glare were measured postoperatively. A patient-satisfaction and visual phenomena questionnaire was administered. Results Six months postoperatively, the mean acuities (logMAR) were binocular BCVA, −0.064 ± 0.049…
