"Observed LH stau limits" of "Search for displaced leptons in $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV $pp$ collisions with the ATLAS detector"

2021

Observed 95% CL exclusion sensitivity. The limit is displayed in the lifetime vs. $m(\tilde{\tau}_L)$ plane, where $\tilde{\tau}_L$ is the pure-state super-partner of the left-handed $\tau$. Purple denotes the region excluded by LEP. This result does not present signficant sensitivity to the pure-state superpartner of the right-handed $\tau$.

"Expected stau limits" of "Search for displaced leptons in $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV $pp$ collisions with the ATLAS detector"

2021

Expected 95% CL exclusion sensitivity. The limit is displayed in the lifetime vs. $m(\tilde{\tau})$ plane. Staus, $\tilde{\tau}_{1,2}$ are the mixed states of the superpartners of the left- and right-handed $\tau$ leptons, with mixing angle $\sin(\theta_{\tilde\tau})=0.95$, which are assumed to be mass degenerate.

"smuon upper limit on cross section" of "Search for displaced leptons in $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV $pp$ collisions with the ATLAS detector"

2021

Upper limits on observed signal cross section, $\sigma_\text{obs}^\text{95}$, for the smuon signal model. Smuon ($\tilde{\mu}_{L, R}$) refers to the scalar superpartners of left- and right-handed muons.

Giants end Elephants of Sicily

2007

The great abundance of fascinating and impressive natural phenomena, like the active volcanoes, the thermal springs or the earthquakes, have fed the imagination of men, who have interpreted them as the manifestation of the existence of supernatural and fantastic beings giving rise to myth and legend. Among so many myths one particularly, that of the Cyclops Polyphemus, is closely linked to the geopalaeontological history of the Sicilian island. The discovery, often inside caves, of the fossil skulls of elephants, in which (in the frontal part) there is a great nasal hollow where during life there was the trunk, gave birth to the belief that one-eyed giants had existed, in past times; in fac…

Ovicide-induced serosa degeneration and its impact on embryonic development in Manduca sexta (Insecta: Lepidoptera)

2003

Abstract Eggs of Manduca sexta treated with the ovicide Ov. 165049 turn orange, and the embryos later die. The orange pigmentation is at first confined to the serosa, and is accompanied by pathological changes of serosal cells. Lipid vesicles aggregate and spindle-shaped electron-lucent vesicles—normally forming a single layer below the apical cell surface—greatly accumulate. The mitochondria swell considerably, and their matrices become electron-lucent. Subsequently, the serosal cells develop additional features of necrosis. They form many autophagic vacuoles which contain mostly degradating mitochondria, but also segregated rough endoplasmic reticulum (rER) and glycogen granules. The whol…

Orexin system: Network multi-tasking

2018

Orexin system regulates sleep/wake states and its deficiency result in narcolepsy thus indicating the crucial role of orexins in maintaining wakefulness. There are two types of orexin peptides: the orexin-A (OXA or hypocretin 1) and orexin-B (OXB or hypocre- tin 2). The Majority of the central nervous system orexin peptides are synthesized in neurons located in the lateral and back hypotha- lamus and send projections throughout the brain regions Orexin neurons are “multi-tasking” hence regulating also energy homeosta- sis, reward systems and feeding behaviour through connection with hypothalamic nuclei and through responsiveness to leptine and glucose. It has recently been found a connectio…

Febrile infection-related Epilepsy Syndrome (FIRES): a severe encephalopathy with status epilepticus. Literature review and presentation of two new c…

2022

AbstractFIRES is defined as a disorder that requires a prior febrile infection starting between 2 weeks and 24 h before the onset of the refractory status epilepticus with or without fever at the onset of status epilepticus. The patients, previously normal, present in the acute phase recurrent seizures and status epilepticus followed by a severe course with usually persistent seizures and residual cognitive impairment. Boundary with “new onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) has not clearly established. Pathogenetic hypothesis includes inflammatory or autoimmune mechanism with a possible genetic predisposition for an immune response dysfunction.Various types of treatment have been pro…

Dietary xenoestrogens differentially impair 3T3-L1 preadipocyte differentiation and persistently affect leptin synthesis

2008

International audience; Recent observations have highlighted adipogenesis alterations under exposure to several xenoestrogens at critical stages, and pointed at their possible involvement in the pathogenesis of obesity. However, it remains unclear whether these effects are mediated by classical estrogen receptor (ER) binding and subsequent transcriptional modulation. The aim of this study was to determine the (anti-)adipogenic impact of apigenin, bisphenol A, genistein and 17β-estradiol at the onset of adipose cell maturation, and to correlate it to their estrogenic potential. In steroid-free conditions, 3T3-L1 preadipocytes were induced to differentiate in the presence of xenoestrogens for…
