N3LOHiggs boson and Drell-Yan production at threshold: The one-loop two-emission contribution
2014
In this paper, we study phenomenologically interesting soft radiation distributions in massless QCD. Specifically, we consider the emission of two soft partons off of a pair of lightlike Wilson lines, in either the fundamental or the adjoint representation, at next-to-leading order. Our results are an essential component of the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order threshold corrections to both Higgs boson production in the gluon fusion channel and Drell-Yan lepton production. Our calculations are consistent with the recently published results for Higgs boson production. As a nontrivial cross-check on our analysis, we rederive a recent prediction for the Drell-Yan threshold cross section us…
From deep inelastic scattering to heavy-flavor semi-leptonic decays: Total rates into multi-hadron final states from lattice QCD
2017
We present a new technique for extracting decay and transition rates into final states with any number of hadrons. The approach is only sensitive to total rates, in which all out-states with a given set of QCD quantum numbers are included. For processes involving photons or leptons, differential rates with respect to the non-hadronic kinematics may also be extracted. Our method involves constructing a finite-volume Euclidean four-point function, whose corresponding spectral function measures the decay and transition rates in the infinite-volume limit. This requires solving the inverse problem of extracting the spectral function from the correlator and also necessitates a smoothing procedure…
Measurement of theW+W−Cross Section ins=7 TeVppCollisions with ATLAS
2011
This Letter presents a measurement of the W+W- production cross section in root s = 7 TeV pp collisions by the ATLAS experiment, using 34 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Selecting events with two isolated leptons, each either an electron or a muon, 8 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 1.7 +/- 0.6 events. The measured cross section is 41(-16)(+20)(stat) +/- 5(syst) +/- 1(lumi) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of 44 +/- 3 pb calculated at next-to-leading order in QCD.
Pseudoscalar transition form factors: (g − 2) of the muon, pseudoscalar decays into lepton pairs, and the η – η′ mixing
2015
We present our model-independent and data-driven method to describe pseudoscalar meson transition form factors in the space- and (low-energy) time-like regions. The method is general and conforms a toolkit applicable to any other form factor, of one and two variables, with the potential to include both high- and low-energy QCD constraints altogether. The method makes use of analyticity and unitary properties of form factors, it is simple, systematic and can be improved upon by including new data. In the present discussion, the method is used to show the impact of experimental data for precision calculations in the low-energy sector of the Standard Model. In particular, due to its relevance …
Search for Gluinos in Events with Two Same-Sign Leptons, Jets, and Missing Transverse Momentum with the ATLAS Detector in Collisions at
2012
A search is presented for gluinos decaying via the supersymmetric partner of the top quark using events with two same-sign leptons, jets, and missing transverse momentum. The analysis is performed ...
A first test of the framed standard model against experiment
2014
The framed standard model (FSM) is obtained from the standard model by incorporating, as field variables, the frame vectors (vielbeins) in internal symmetry space. It gives the standard Higgs boson and 3 generations of quarks and leptons as immediate consequences. It gives moreover a fermion mass matrix of the form: $m = m_T \alpha \alpha^\dagger$, where $\alpha$ is a vector in generation space independent of the fermion species and rotating with changing scale, which has already been shown to lead, generically, to up-down mixing, neutrino oscillations and mass hierarchy. In this paper, pushing the FSM further, one first derives to 1-loop order the RGE for the rotation of $\alpha$, and then…
Measurement of spin correlation in tt¯ production using dilepton final states
2011
We measure the correlation between the spin of the top quark and the spin of the anti-top quark in (ttbar -> W+ W- b bbar -> l+ nu b l- nubar bbar) final states produced in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, where l is an electron or muon. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 and were collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The correlation is extracted from the angles of the two leptons in the t and tbar rest frames, yielding a correlation strength C= 0.10^{+0.45}_{-0.45}, in agreement with the NLO QCD prediction within two standard deviations, but also in agreement with the no correlation hypothesis.
Measurement of theB¯0→D*+ℓ−ν¯ℓdecay rate and|Vcb|
2005
We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ based on a sample of about 53,700 \mbox{$\Bzb \rightarrow D^{*+} \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell}$} decays observed by the \babar\ detector. We obtain the branching fraction averaged over $\ell = e,\mu$, ${\cal B}(\Bzb \rightarrow D^{*+} \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell}) = (4.90 \pm 0.07\mathrm{(stat.)}^{+0.36}_{-0.35}\mathrm{(syst.)})\%$. We measure the differential decay rate as a function of $w$, the relativistic boost $\gamma$ of the $D^{*+}$ in the ${\Bzb}$ rest frame. By extrapolating $d\Gamma/dw$ to the kinematic limit $w \rightarrow 1$, we extract the product of $|V_{cb}|$ and the axial form factor ${\cal A}_1(w=1)$. …
Extraction of form Factors from a Four-Dimensional Angular Analysis of B¯→D*ℓ−ν¯ℓ
2019
An angular analysis of the decay B[over ¯]→D^{*}l^{-}ν[over ¯]_{l}, l∈{e,μ}, is reported using the full e^{+}e^{-} collision data set collected by the BABAR experiment at the ϒ(4S) resonance. One B meson from the ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] decay is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode, which constrains the kinematics and provides a determination of the neutrino momentum vector. The kinematics of the semileptonic decay is described by the dilepton mass squared, q^{2}, and three angles. The first unbinned fit to the full four-dimensional decay rate in the standard model is performed in the so-called Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed approach, which employs a generic q^{2} parametrization of the underlying f…
Parity violation correlations in light muonic atoms
1989
The 2 S -1 S transition in light muonic atoms is very sensitive to parity violation correlations induced via neutral currents. Observables depending on these transitions such as the photon polarization and the angular correlation between the emitted radiation and the atom polarization are a clear signal of weak neutral currents in atoms. We find the relation between the lepton and quark couplings and these observables emphasizing the effect of the nuclear spin. The results expected in muonic, atoms μ- 4 He and μ- 3 He are given.
