Hyperfine mixing in b -> c semileptonic decay of doubly heavy baryons

2010

We qualitatively corroborate the results of [W. Roberts, M. Pervin, Int. J. Mod. Phys. A 24 (2009) 2401] according to which hyperfine mixing greatly affects the decay widths of b -> c semileptonic decays involving doubly heavy bc baryons. However, our predictions for the decay widths of the unmixed states differ from those reported in the work of Roberts and Pervin by a factor of 2, and this discrepancy translates to the mixed case. We further show that the predictions of heavy quark spin symmetry, might be used in the future to experimentally extract information on the admixtures in the actual physical bc baryons, in a model independent manner.

Semileptonic decays of baryons containing two heavy quarks

1994

Abstract Semileptonic weak decays of doubly heavy baryons are analyzed and compared to the analogous decays of heavy quarkonia, showing similar underlying dynamics at low recoil.

Heavy Baryon Transitions in a Relativistic Three-Quark Model

1996

Exclusive semileptonic decays of bottom and charm baryons are considered within a relativistic three-quark model with a Gaussian shape for the baryon-three-quark vertex and standard quark propagators. We calculate the baryonic Isgur-Wise functions, decay rates and asymmetry parameters.

Renormalization of the effective theory for heavy quarks at small velocity

1995

The slope of the Isgur-Wise function at the normalization point, $\xi^{(1)}(1)$,is one of the basic parameters for the extraction of the $CKM$ matrix element $V_{cb}$ from exclusive semileptonic decay data. A method for measuring this parameter on the lattice is the effective theory for heavy quarks at small velocity $v$. This theory is a variant of the heavy quark effective theory in which the motion of the quark is treated as a perturbation. In this work we study the lattice renormalization of the slow heavy quark effective theory. We show that the renormalization of $\xi^{(1)}(1)$ is not affected by ultraviolet power divergences, implying no need of difficult non-perturbative subtraction…

Cold-Nuclear-Matter Effects on Heavy-Quark Production at Forward and Backward Rapidity ind+AuCollisions atsNN=200  GeV

2014

The PHENIX experiment has measured open heavy-flavor production via semileptonic decay over the transverse momentum range 1 < p(T) < 6 GeV/c at forward and backward rapidity (1.4 < vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.0) in d + Au and p + p collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. In central d + Au collisions, relative to the yield in p + p collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, a suppression is observed at forward rapidity (in the d-going direction) and an enhancement at backward rapidity (in the Au-going direction). Predictions using nuclear-modified-parton-distribution functions, even with additional nuclear-p(T) broadening, cannot simultaneously reproduce the data a…

First Measurement of Boson Production in Association with a Single Charm Quark in Collisions at

2008

The authors present the first measurement of the production cross section of a W boson with a single charm quark (c) in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV, using soft muon tagging of c jets. In a data sample of {approx} 1.8 fb{sup -1}, recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, they select events with W + 1 or 2 jets. They use the charge correlation between the W and the muon from the semileptonic decay of a charm hadron to extract the We signal. They measure {sigma}{sub Wc} (p{sub Tc} > 20 GeV/c, |{eta}{sub c}| < 1.5) x BR(W {yields} {ell}{nu}) = 9.8 {+-} 3.2 pb, in agreement with theoretical expectations.

Heavy quark symmetry constraints on semileptonic form factors and decay widths of doubly heavy baryons

2007

We show how heavy quark symmetry constraints on doubly heavy baryon semileptonic decay widths can be used to test the validity of different quark model calculations. The large discrepancies in the results observed between different quark model approaches can be understood in terms of a severe violation of heavy quark spin symmetry constraints by some of those models.

s-channel single top quark production and decay at next-to-next-to-leading-order in QCD

2018

We report on a fully differential next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculation of s-channel single top (anti)quark production with a semileptonic decay at the LHC, neglecting the color correlation between the light and heavy quark lines and in the narrow width approximation. The NNLO corrections can increase the cross section by about 10% in the low transverse momentum region of the top quark and reduce scale variation uncertainty. In order to compare with experimental results without unfolding procedures, we also present theoretical predictions with fiducial cuts, including total cross sections and distributions of observables used in the experimental multivariate analysis. The NNLO co…

Search for Down-Type Fourth Generation Quarks with the ATLAS Detector in Events with One Lepton and Hadronically Decaying W Bosons

2012

This Letter presents a search for pair production of heavy down-type quarks decaying via b′→Wt in the lepton+jets channel, as b′¯b′→W−tW+¯t→b¯bW+W−W+W−→l±νb¯bq¯qq¯qq¯q. In addition to requiring exactly one lepton, large missing transverse momentum, and at least six jets, the invariant mass of nearby jet pairs is used to identify high transverse momentum W bosons. In data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.04  fb−1 from pp collisions at √s=7  TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector, a heavy down-type quark with mass less than 480 GeV can be excluded at the 95% confidence level.
