Nuclear effects on lepton polarization in charged-current quasielastic neutrino scattering

2006

We use a correlated local Fermi gas (LFG) model, which accounts also for long distance corrections of the RPA type and final-state interactions, to compute the polarization of the final lepton in charged-current quasielastic neutrino scattering. The present model has been successfully used in recent studies of inclusive neutrino nucleus processes and muon capture. We investigate the relevance of nuclear effects in the particular case of $\tau$ polarization in tau-neutrino induced reactions for several kinematics of relevance for neutrino oscillation experiments.

Probing neutrino mass with multilepton production at the Tevatron in the simplest R-parity violation model

2003

We analyze the production of multileptons in the simplest supergravity model with bilinear violation of R parity at the Fermilab Tevatron. Despite the small R-parity violating couplings needed to generate the neutrino masses indicated by current atmospheric neutrino data, the lightest supersymmetric particle is unstable and can decay inside the detector. This leads to a phenomenology quite distinct from that of the R-parity conserving scenario. We quantify by how much the supersymmetric multilepton signals differ from the R-parity conserving expectations, displaying our results in the $m_0 \otimes m_{1/2}$ plane. We show that the presence of bilinear R-parity violating interactions enhances…

Constraints from lepton universality at the z-peak on unified theories

1995

We suggest the use of a universality-breaking observable based on lepton asymmetries as derived from the left-right asymmetry and the $\tau$ polarization at the $Z$ peak, which can efficiently constrain the parameter space of unified theories. The new observable is complementary to the leptonic partial width differences and it depends critically on the chirality of a possible non-universal $Z$-boson coupling to like-flavour leptons. The LEP/SLC potential of probing universality violation is discussed in representative low-energy extensions of the Standard Model (SM) that could be derived by supersymmetric grand unified theories, such as the SM with left-handed and/or right-handed neutral is…

Search for new physics inlepton+photon+Xevents with929  pb−1ofpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2007

The authors present results of a search for anomalous production of events containing a charged lepton ({ell}, either e or {mu}) and a photon ({gamma}), both with high transverse momentum, accompanied by additional signatures, X, including missing transverse energy (E{sub T}) and additional leptons and photons. We use the same kinematic selection criteria as in a previous CDF search, but with a substantially larger data set, 305 pb{sup -1}, a p{bar p} collision energy of 1.96 TeV, and the upgraded CDF II detector. We find 42 {ell}{gamma}E{sub T} events versus a standard model expectation of 37.3 {+-} 5.4 events. The level of excess observed in Run I, 16 events with an expectation of 7.6 {+-…

Leptonic universality breaking in Upsilon decays as a probe of new physics

2003

In this work we examine the possible existence of new physics beyond the standard model which could modify the branching fractions of the leptonic (mainly tauonic) decays of bottomonium vector resonances below the $B\bar{B}$ threshold. The decay width is factorized as the product of two pieces: a) the probability of an intermediate pseudoscalar color-singlet $b\bar{b}$ state (coupling to the dominant Fock state of the Upsilon via a magnetic dipole transition) and a soft (undetected) photon; b) the annihilation width of the $b\bar{b}$ pair into two leptons, mediated by a non-standard CP-odd Higgs boson of mass about 10 GeV, introducing a quadratic dependence on the lepton mass in the partial…

Study of the discovery potential for hidden photon emission at future electron scattering fixed target experiments

2013

Electron scattering fixed target experiments are a versatile tool to explore various physics phenomena. Recently these experiments came into focus to search for $U(1)$ extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics at low energies. These extensions are motivated from anomalies in astrophysical observations as well as from deviations from Standard Model predictions, such as the discrepancy between the experimental and theoretical determination of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. They also arise naturally when the Standard Model is embedded into a more general theory. In the considered $U(1)$ extensions a new, light messenger particle $\gamma^\prime$, the hidden photon, couple…

Zγproduction and limits on anomalousZZγandZγγcouplings inpp¯collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2012

We present a measurement of ppbar->Zgamma->ll+gamma (l = e, mu) production with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.2 fb^{-1} collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar Collider. The results of the electron and muon channels are combined, and we measure the total production cross section and the differential cross section dsigma/dp_T^gamma, where p_T^gamma is the momentum of the photon in the plane transverse to the beamline. The results obtained are consistent with the standard model predictions from next-to-leading order calculations. We use the transverse momentum spectrum of the photon to place limits on anomalous ZZgamma and Zgammagamma couplin…

Relic Neutrino Decoupling Including Flavour Oscillations

2005

In the early universe, neutrinos are slightly coupled when electron-positron pairs annihilate transferring their entropy to photons. This process originates non-thermal distortions on the neutrino spectra which depend on neutrino flavour, larger for nu_e than for nu_mu or nu_tau. We study the effect of three-neutrino flavour oscillations on the process of neutrino decoupling by solving the momentum-dependent kinetic equations for the neutrino spectra. We find that oscillations do not essentially modify the total change in the neutrino energy density, giving N_eff=3.046 in terms of the effective number of neutrinos, while the small effect over the production of primordial 4He is increased by…

Single-photon Z decays and small neutrino masses

1996

We discuss some rare Z decay signatures associated with extensions of the Standard Model with spontaneous lepton number violation at the electroweak scale. We show that single-photon Z decays such as $Z \to \gamma H$ and $Z \to \gamma J J$ where H is a CP-even Higgs boson and J denotes the associated CP-odd Majoron may occur with branching ratios accessible to LEP sensitivities, even though the corresponding neutrino masses can be very small, as required in order to explain the deficit of solar neutrinos.
