Revising Ovid’s Metamorphoses: Dramatizing the Mythical in Mary Shelley’s Proserpine
2017
This contribution intends to assess the web of intertextual references in Mary Shelley’s drama Proserpine (1820), an early example of Romantic interest in revisionist mythology. The few critical efforts on the text focus on its transposition of the Ovidian narrative and its proto-feminist instances of mythical revisionism. Shelley’s adaptation primarily concerns characterization, structure and intended audience. In light of Ostriker’s (1984) suggestion that revisionist myth-making in women’s literary production constitutes a significant reshaping of shared culture and personal identity, Proserpine generally reads as a tale of defiance against patriarchal violence. The thoroughness of the ex…

Per una voce sola. Intertestualità e intermedialità nella scrittura di Michele Mar
2022
The aim of this paper is to compare three recent republications of Michele Mari’s works, Di bestia in bestia (1989 Longanesi and 2013 Einaudi), Asterusher. Autobiografia per feticci (2015 and 2019 Corraini edizioni) and Leggenda privata (2017 Einaudi),which all show consistent changes. The intention is precisely to point out the reciprocal relationships between these works and the different ways they have been transformed, both in the cases of literary writing alone and in those involving phototextual forms, in order to trace a possible unity of intent. In Di bestia in bestia Mari chooses to thin out the novel ; in the second case to increase the number of pages of the phototext, and in the…
Recensione di F. Mazzara, 2019, Reframing Migration. Lampedusa, Border Spectacle and the Aesthetics of Subversion
2019
Reframing Migration by Federica Mazzara, chooses the island of Lampedusa as a perspective window from which to observe the phenomenon of migration as the today West is experiencing it and above all is representing it. The choice of this "place of condensation" shows how both the space that is crossed and the bodies that cross it are objects of a manipulated media representation, but it also allows probing the possibilities of different representations through which the objects of the gaze can become subjects, indeed agents of aesthetic performance and subversive policies, even delegitimizing.
Alfredo Strano, one of the most interesting Italo-Australian writers, has devoted much of his life to the service of emigrants. Through…
