Diagnosis of invasive fungal infections in hematology and oncology
2003
Invasive fungal infections are a primary cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with hematological malignancies. Establishing a definite diagnosis of invasive fungal infection in febrile neutropenic patients is particularly challenging and time-consuming, but a delay of antifungal treatment leads to higher mortality. This situation has lead to the strategy of initiation "empirical" antifungal therapy prior to the detection of fungi. Meanwhile, improvements in diagnostic procedures are achieved, especially with imaging techniques and non-culture based methods which include antigen-based assays, metabolite detection and molecular detection of fungal DNA from body fluid samples using con…
Results of an Early Access Treatment Protocol of Daratumumab Monotherapy in Spanish Patients With Relapsed or Refractory Multiple Myeloma
2020
Daratumumab is a human CD38-targeted monoclonal antibody approved as monotherapy for heavily pretreated relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma. We report findings for the Spanish cohort of an open-label treatment protocol that provided early access to daratumumab monotherapy and collected safety and patient-reported outcomes data for patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. At 15 centers across Spain, intravenous daratumumab (16 mg/kg) was administered to 73 patients who had >= 3 prior lines of therapy, including a proteasome inhibitor and an immunomodulatory drug, or who were double refractory to both. The median duration of daratumumab treatment was 3.3 (range: 0.03-13.17)…

A Multicenter Phase I/II Trial of the Combination of Imatinib Mesylate with Mitoxantrone/Etoposide and Cytarabine in Patients with CML in Myeloid Bla…
2004
Abstract The combination of imatinib with mitoxantrone, etoposide or cytarabine were shown to be additive to highly synergistic on BCR-ABL-positive leukemias in vitro by several investigators, including our group. Therefore, we initiated a phase I/II trial for patients with myeloid blast crisis of chronic myelogenous leukemia. Patients were treated in four cohorts starting from mitoxantrone 10 mg/m2/d and etoposide 100 mg/m2/d for 2 or 3 consecutive days and start of imatinib 600 mg/d from day 15 (cohorts #1 and #2) or from day 1 (cohorts #3 and #4). Cytarabine was given at a dose of 10 mg/m2/d s.c. as maintenance treatment. Seventeen patients were included in the study: 8 pts in cohort 1, …
Docetaxel as Salvage Therapy in Highly Pretreated and Drug Resistant Gastrointestinal Carcinomas
2008
Introduction Despite many efforts to develop new chemotherapies for metastatic upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancer, overall prognosis continues to be fatal, particularly in gastric and pancreatic cancer. Many of these patients deserve second-or third-line treatment after failure of first-line chemotherapy. Therefore, we analysed toxicity and response rate of weekly docetaxel after failed upfront regimes in these upper GI cancer patients. Patients and Methods Between 2001 and 2006, 18 patients received docetaxel based regimes (35 mg/m2 weekly) after informed consent. Response rates were determined using RECIST criteria or tumor progression if clinically evident. Toxicities were graded based o…
