First observation of the beta decay of117Pd and the discovery of a new isotope119Pd
1991
In this paper we wish to report the first direct observations of the beta decays of117Pd and of a new isotope119Pd. The measuredβ-half-life is 4.3±0.3 s for117Pd. For119Pd, the existence of two beta-decaying states with the same half-life but of opposite parity cannot be excluded. The measured half-life for119Pd is 0.92±0.13 s. The observed beta half-lifes are in good agreement with the QRPA predictions. The observed level structure of117Ag and119Ag are discussed in the frame of the level systematics of the known odd Ag isotopes closer to stability.

Nuclear levels of 183W studied with and reactions
2011
Abstract The level structure of 183 W has been studied using gamma–gamma coincidences from thermal neutron capture in 182 W accompanied with the reaction ( d → , p ) . From these data and those of previous studies a total of 76 levels and about 490 connecting γ -transitions have been established for energies below 2.4 MeV. An analysis based on the standard distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) provides the lj -angular momentum transfers and spectroscopic factors for 36 levels up to 2.2 MeV excitation energy. A large number of particle transitions indicate an influence of strong mixing between particle and probably hole states. The extra exchange of phonons across the Fermi surface leads …
Nuclear structure of 187W studied with (n,γ) and (d,p) reactions
2008
Abstract The level structure of 187 W has been studied using prompt and delayed gamma–gamma coincidences from thermal neutron capture in 186 W and also measuring the ( d , p ) reaction. From these data and those of previous studies a total of 170 levels (121 connected by γ transitions) have been established for energies below 2.35 MeV. Some of these levels have been grouped into rotational bands built on 14 intrinsic states of quasi-particle and quasi-particle plus phonon character. Of particular interest has been the identification of “quasi bands” with inverse spin sequence based on the newly established isomeric 11 / 2 + state at 410.1 keV. Although the DWBA analysis permitted definite s…
Low-spin mixed particle–hole structures in 185W
2005
Abstract The level structure of 185W has been studied using the prompt and delayed gamma–gamma coincidences from thermal neutron capture in 184W accompanied with the one-nucleon transfer reactions ( d , p ) and ( d , t ) with polarized beams. From these data and those of previous studies a total of 183 levels has been established for energies below 3 MeV. Many of these states have been grouped into rotational bands built on 28 intrinsic states of quasiparticle and quasiparticle-plus-phonon character. Although the DWBA analysis permitted definite spin–parity assignments for most of states a large number of particle transitions have ‘anomalous’ angular and asymmetry shapes with respect to the…

Spectroscopy of Cd98 by two-nucleon removal from In100
2021
Low-lying states of Cd-98 have been populated by the two-nucleon removal reaction (In-100, Cd-98+gamma) and studied using in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. Two new gamma transitions were identified and assigned as decays from a previously unknown state. This state is suggested to be based on a pi 1g(/9/2)(-1)2p(1/2)(-2) configuration with J(pi) = 5(-). The present observation extends the systematics of the excitation energies of the first 5(-) state in N = 50 isotones toward Sn-100. The determined energy of the 5(- )state in Cd-98 continues a smooth trend along the N = 50 isotones. The systematics are compared with shell-model calculations in d…
Creation, storage, and on-demand release of optical quantum states with a negative Wigner function
2013
Highly nonclassical quantum states of light, characterized by Wigner functions with negative values, have been created so far only in a heralded fashion. In this case, the desired output emerges rarely and randomly from a quantum-state generator. An important example is the heralded production of high-purity single-photon states, typically based on some nonlinear optical interaction. In contrast, on-demand single-photon sources were also reported, exploiting the quantized level structure of matter systems. These sources, however, lead to highly impure output states, composed mostly of vacuum. While such impure states may still exhibit certain single-photon-like features such as anti-bunchin…
Improving the nuclear physics input along the rp-process path
2007
The level structure of 30 S was studied at the NSCL by using neutron removal reactions with a radioactive 31 S beam. The γ -decay from excited states in 30 S was measured in a Ge-detector array. The results discussed for this work will reduce the uncertainties in the determination of the astrophysical 29 P(p, γ ) 30 S reaction rate under rp -process conditions.
Evolution from γ -soft to stable triaxiality in Nd136 as a prerequisite of chirality
2018
The level structure of Nd136 has been investigated using the Mo100(Ar40,4n) reaction and the JUROGAM II+RITU+GREAT setup. The level scheme has been extended significantly. Many new bands have been identified both at low and high spin, among which are five nearly degenerate bands interpreted as chiral partners. Excitation energies, spins, and parities of the previously known bands are revised and firmly established, and some previously known bands have been revised. Configurations are assigned to the observed bands based on cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky calculations. The band structure of Nd136 is now clarified and the various types of single-particle and collective excitations are well underst…
