Adolescents’ health literacy, health protective measures, and health-related quality of life during the Covid-19 pandemic

2020

AbstractPurposeFirst, to describe adolescents’ health information sources and knowledge, health literacy (HL), health protective measures, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) during the initial phase of the Covid-19 pandemic in Norway. Second, to investigate the association between HL and the knowledge and behavior relevant for preventing spread of the virus. Third, to explore variables associated with HRQoL in a pandemic environment.MethodsThis cross-sectional study includes survey data from 2,205 Norwegian adolescents 16–19 years of age. The participants reported on their health information sources, HL, handwashing knowledge and behavior, number of social interactions, and HRQoL. A…

Watching TV has a distinct sociodemographic and lifestyle profile compared with other sedentary behaviors: A nationwide population-based study

2017

Watching TV has been consistently associated with higher risk of adverse health outcomes, but the effect of other sedentary behaviors (SB) is uncertain. Potential explanations are that watching TV is not a marker of a broader sedentary pattern and that each SB reflects different sociodemographic and health characteristics. Data were taken form a survey on 10,199 individuals, representative of the Spanish population aged 18 years. SB and other health behaviors were ascertained using validated questionnaires. Watching TV was the predominant SB (45.4% of the total sitting time), followed by sitting at the computer (22.7%). TV watching time showed no correlation with total time on other SB (r: …

Wheeze and asthma in children: associations with body mass index, sports, television viewing, and diet.

2008

Obesity, physical activity, and dietary habits are distinct but strongly interrelated lifestyle factors that may be relevant to the prevalence of wheeze and asthma in children. Our goal was to analyze the relationship of body mass index (BMI), regular sports participation, TV viewing, and diet with current wheezing and asthma. We investigated 20,016 children, aged 6-7 years, who were enrolled in a population-based study. Parents completed standardized questionnaires. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), while adjusting for several confounders and simultaneously considering BMI, regular sports activity, TV viewing and selected dietary …

Adjusted population attributable fractions and preventable potential of risk factors for childhood obesity.

2007

AbstractObjectiveA number of individual risk factors for childhood obesity have been identified, but only some of these are amenable to prevention. To assess the amount of cases in a general population attributable to these risk factors, adjusted population-attributable fractions were estimated.DesignCross-sectional study.SettingObligatory school entry examination in 2001/2002 in six Bavarian communities (Germany).Subjects5472 children at age 5–6 years.MeasuresAnthropometric measures were ascertained by public health nurses, and measures concerning sociodemographics, lifestyle and child behaviour such as child's daily meal frequency were obtained with self-administered parental questionnair…

Media devices in pre-school children: the recommendations of the Italian pediatric society

2018

Abstract Background Young children are too often exposed to mobile devices (MD) and most of them had their own device. The adverse effects of a early and prolonged exposure to digital technology on pre-school children has been described by several studies. Aim of the study is to analyze the consequences of MD exposure in pre-school children. Methods We analyzed the documented effects of media exposure on children’s mental and physical health. Results According to recent studies, MD may interfere with learning, children development, well being, sleep, sight, listening, caregiver-child relationship. Discussion Pediatricians should be aware of both the beneficial and side effects of MD and giv…

Product Placement in the Pharmaceutical Industry: The Case of Sinemet in ER

2015

While physician-oriented marketing remains the largest factor in drug advertising and direct-to-consumer advertising has increased its budget during the last few years (IMS Health, 2001), pharmaceutical brands are exploring new ways to target consumers in a softer way. Product placement in entertainment media allows the promotion of brand drugs in a natural and entertaining context. Using a case study methodology, this chapter analyses the use of product placement of a brand drug (Sinemet) in the television series ER (NBC). To do so, first of all product placement definition and main marketing goals are provided. Then the authors address the legal framework of product placement for brand dr…

Non-dominated “trade-off” solutions in television scheduling optimization

2014

The main approaches for the television scheduling design are commonly based on the ratings or revenues maximization objective, and thus, only a single optimal solution can be obtained, corresponding to the best result for the considered objective. Therefore, these approaches lead up to the alternative solutions loss which, even if less effective from the ratings or revenues maximization viewpoint, may be more suitable for the decision maker because of better compromise in relation to factors influencing the decision process. Specifically, such a compromise could be achieved through a suitable “trade-off” between these factors, with reference to the decision context in which the decision mak…

The Riemannian manifold of all Riemannian metrics

1991

In this paper we study the geometry of (M, G) by using the ideas developed in [Michor, 1980]. With that differentiable structure on M it is possible to use variational principles and so we start in section 2 by computing geodesics as the curves in M minimizing the energy functional. From the geodesic equation, the covariant derivative of the Levi-Civita connection can be obtained, and that provides a direct method for computing the curvature of the manifold. Christoffel symbol and curvature turn out to be pointwise in M and so, although the mappings involved in the definition of the Ricci tensor and the scalar curvature have no trace, in our case we can define the concepts of ”Ricci like cu…
