[EN] In this paper, we report the application of chiral complexes of La(III) with pyBOX ligands as Lewis acid catalysts in the conjugate addition of malonic esters to N-tosyl imines derived from ß,gamma-unsaturated alfa-keto esters to give the corresponding chiral alfa,ß-dehydroamino esters. pyBOX complexes with La(III), Yb(III), Sc(III), and In(III) triflates were assessed in this reaction but only La(III) showed good activity and enantioselectivity, while Yb(III) provided the expected product with low yield and stereoselectivity, and the Sc(III) and In(III) complexes were completely inactive. The dicationic palladium cluster Pd3(dppm)3(CO)2+ (dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) reacts with acid chlorides RCOCl (R = n-C6H13, t-Bu, Ph) to afford quantitatively the chloride adduct Pd3(dppm)3(CO)(Cl)+ and the acyl cation RCO+ as the organic counterpart. The dicationic reactive cluster can be reformed by electrolyzing the chloride complex with a copper anode leaving CuCl as a byproduct. The combination of these two reactions provides an electrocatalytic way to form the acylium from the acid chloride. [EN] The thermal and Lewis acid (LA) catalyzed cyclizations of quinone 1 involved in the synthesis of Colombiasin A and Elipsaterosin B have been theoretically studied using DFT methods at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) computational level. B3LYP calculations suggest that the formal endo [4 + 2] cycloadduct allowing the synthesis of Colombiasin A is preferentially formed under thermal conditions, while in the presence of the BF3 LA catalyst the formal [5 + 2] cycloadduct is seen, allowing the synthesis of Elipsaterosin B. Abstract A theoretical gas-phase “ligand-free” or “electron pair affinity” (EPA) approach, based on CCSD(T)/(SDB-)cc-pVTZ//MP2/(SDB-)cc-pVTZ electronic structure calculations, is introduced as a possible means for determining Lewis acidity trends among planar EX30/+ (E = B, C, Al, Si; X = F, Cl, Br, I) species. In this treatment, the free electron pair is considered to be an extreme Lewis base. The calculated EPA values are compared with experimental Lewis acidities, previously calculated fluoride ion affinity (FIA) and hydride ion affinity (HA) trends, and are found to exhibit reasonable correlations in all cases. Complexation energies of H3BXHn and [H3BXHn-1]- complexes (X = N, O, F, P, S, and Cl) (n = 3, 2, 1) have been computed at the G-2 level of theory. The formation of H3BXH3 (X = N, P) is found to be more favored than the formations of H3BXH2 (X = O, S) and H3BXH (X = F, Cl). The qualitative features of the molecular orbital interaction (the correlation diagrams) of H3BNH3 (C3v symmetry group), H3BOH2 (Cs symmetry group), and H3BFH (Cs symmetry group) complexes are presented. An insoluble material of polysaccharidic nature has been obtained by thermal alkali treatment of the filamentous fungus Phomopsis sp. FT-IR spectrum of the resulting material as well as its nitrogen content suggest that chitosan and glucans are the main components of the biomaterial. Information on Lewis base sites has also been obtained and used as a guideline in the evaluation of the complexing ability against a number of metal ions in aqueous media at pH in the range 4--6. Results indicate that after 24h contact time, up to 870 micromol/g of lead, 390 micromol/g of copper, 230 micromol/g of cadmium, 150 micromol/g of zinc and 110 micromol/g of nickel ions are adsorbed into the material. …
A dft analysis of the participation of zwitterionic tacs in polar [3+2] cycloaddition reactions

A set of seven non-substituted tri-atom-components (TACs) participating in [3+2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions has been studied using the reactivity indices defined within the conceptual DFT at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level of theory. This series of TACs shows a zwitterionic structure and low reactivity towards ethylene. The general characteristic of these TACs is their high nucleophilic and a low electrophilic behaviour. Activation energies computed at the MPWB1K/6-311G(d) level in dichloromethane point to that non-substituted TACs react quickly toward dicyanoethylene showing their ability to react towards electron-deficient ethylenes. Abstract The reactions of the half-sandwich molybdenum(III) complexes CpMo(η 4 -C 4 H 4 R 2 )(CH 3 ) 2 , where Cpη 5 -C 5 H 5 and RH or CH 3 , with equimolar amounts of B(C 6 F 5 ) 3 have been investigated in toluene. EPR monitoring shows the formation of an addition product which does not readily react with Lewis bases such as ethylene, pyridine, or PMe 3 . The analysis of the EPR properties and the X-ray structure of a decomposition product obtained from dichloromethane, [CpMo(η 4 -C 4 H 6 )(μ-Cl)(μ-CH 2 )(O)MoCp][CH 3 B(C 6 F 5 ) 3 ], indicate that the borane attack has occurred at the methyl position.
A molecular electron density theory study of the insertion of CO into frustrated Lewis pair boron-amidines: a [4 + 1] cycloaddition reaction

The insertion of CO into hydrogenated boron-amidine 1 yielding five-membered diazaborolone (5DAB) 3 has been studied within the molecular electron density theory (MEDT) at the DFT ωB97X-D/6-311G(d,p) level. This is a domino process comprised of two consecutive reactions: (i) the dehydrogenation of 1 yielding the frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) boron-amidine 4, which quickly equilibrates with four-membered diazaborolone (4DAB) 2; and (ii) the addition of CO into FLP 4, yielding the final 5DAB 3. Analysis of the Gibbs free energies indicates that the extrusion of H2 demands a high ΔG≠ of 28.6 kcal·mol-1, being endergonic by 6.7 kcal·mol-1.
